Date 9/10, newspaper The Washington Post quote from spokesperson Foreign Office American Matthew Miller stated, Mr. Algoney, also younger brother of RSF head Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti), involved in funding and arming the RSF, leading to an escalation of the conflict and worsening the humanitarian situation in Sudan.
Washington said the new sanctions were part of a broad international effort to restore peace in Sudan.
According to analysts, the sanctions could affect the RSF's ability to acquire weapons and risk weakening its combat capabilities.
Many international organizations, including the United Nations and the African Union (AU), have condemned serious violations by warring forces in Sudan.
As international sanctions against leaders involved in the conflict in Sudan continue, pressure on the warring parties to come to the negotiating table and find a solution to the crisis is expected to increase.
Meanwhile, on October 9, the news agency Reuters RSF commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo has accused Egypt of involvement in Sudanese military airstrikes targeting the paramilitary group, the report said.
Mr. Dagalo also accused Cairo of training and supplying unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to the Sudanese military (SAF), which has recently gained the upper hand in the conflict that has devastated Sudan for nearly 18 months.
In addition, the RSF Commander also mentioned the presence of Tigrayan, Eritrean, Azerbaijani and Ukrainian mercenaries in Sudan, and reiterated the accusation of Iran participating in the war alongside the SAF.
However, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry later issued a statement rejecting Mr Dagalo’s accusations about Cairo’s role in the ongoing war in Sudan. The statement said: “Egypt calls on the international community to find out the evidence that proves what the RSF commander said is true.”
Despite its close ties with the SAF and its commander-in-chief, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Egypt has joined US and Saudi efforts to mediate between the conflicting parties in its southern neighbor. Cairo also hosted talks between rival political factions in Sudan earlier this year.
According to United Nations statistics, the Sudanese civil war, which broke out in April 2023 month, has forced nearly 10 million people – equivalent to 1/5 the population of the Northeast African country – to stay inside the country or flee to neighboring countries, causing widespread famine and witnessing a wave of ethnic violence.
