Opening of the 2024 Southern Region Typical Rural Industrial Products Exhibition Fair

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Fair, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Phan Thi Thang stated that with the available potential and strengths of the sea and islands, along with the efforts, innovative thinking and aspirations of the local government and people, Kien Giang has been affirming its position and role as one of the dynamic marine economic centers of the Mekong Delta region and is gradually getting closer to the goal of becoming a national marine economic center according to the Kien Giang Provincial Planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050. The series of activities of the regional industry and trade sector in the year 2024 is held from 10/10 to October 16, 2024 including: Industry and Trade Conference, Industrial Promotion Conference, Exhibition Fair of typical rural industrial products in the Southern region in the year 2024, Conference to summarize the national industrial promotion project of Kien Giang province. The conferences are held to evaluate the results of activities in the year 2023, 9 month and year 2024, solutions to complete the tasks of the regional industry and trade sector in the remaining months of the year 2024.

Deputy Minister Phan Thi Thang also informed that at the opening ceremony of the Fair, the Organizing Committee will announce and honor typical rural industrial products of the Southern region in 2024.

In the year 2024, nationwide, there were 889 typical rural industrial products at the provincial level registered to participate in the regional voting; in which 439 products were recognized, reaching 49% of the total number of registered products. In the Southern region alone, there were 382 products registered to vote from 18/20 provinces and cities, in which 189 products were recognized, reaching 49,5% of the total number of registered products. Thus, the typical rural industrial products recognized in the Southern region accounted for 43% of the total number of recognized products nationwide in the year 2024.

This is the highest number of products voted for at the regional level ever. Localities have registered to participate with the most outstanding products, bearing strong identities with much improved scale and quality compared to before. This year in particular, many new products originated from start-up movements, demonstrating the companionship and effectiveness of the industrial promotion program, which has contributed to encouraging rural industrial establishments to have more motivation, boldly invest in new technology, produce products of superior quality, and meet consumer tastes.

According to local reports, about 35% of typical products in the Southern region in 2024 have participated in distribution channels and supply chains in the national market, especially products in the fields of agricultural, forestry, fishery and food processing.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade believes that the Exhibition Fair will be an opportunity for localities to strengthen provincial and regional linkages; contributing to promoting industrial, trade and Travel of Kien Giang province as well as the Southern region in the coming time.", the Deputy Minister emphasized once again.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Fair, Mr. Giang Thanh Khoa - Vice Chairman of Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee said that this exhibition of typical rural industrial products is an opportunity to display and introduce the potential for developing typical rural industrial products, creating opportunities for enterprises and typical rural industrial establishments to meet, exchange, learn from experiences, promote products, seek partners, develop markets for goods consumption, transfer technology, contribute to improving competitiveness in the process of integration and economic development in the region as well as the whole country; actively respond to the Campaign "Vietnamese people prioritize using Vietnamese goods".

The products displayed at the Fair are unique and typical rural industrial products of enterprises and rural industrial establishments in the fields of: Handicrafts; processing of agricultural, forestry, aquatic and food products; mechanical spare parts, machinery, equipment, etc. with 189 typical rural industrial products at the regional level (including 19 products from Kien Giang).

"Through the Fair, it shows that the effectiveness of industrial promotion work in the Southern region is increasingly being paid attention to, improving the effectiveness in supporting the development of industry and handicrafts and hopefully meeting the interests and expectations of businesses, consumers and people visiting and shopping at the Fair.", the leader of Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee expressed.

In addition, this is also an opportunity to introduce the image of the homeland, people, potential, strengths and products of Kien Giang province to seek partners, expand the market for products; promote investment, trade and tourism in Kien Giang province.
