On the occasion of YouTube's 20th anniversary, Google shared some impressive numbers.

Starting with just 19-second videos, as of April 2025, YouTube has more than 20 billion videos uploaded, including music, Shorts, podcasts and many other content. On average, more than 20 million new videos are uploaded every day from users around the world.

2025 also marks 10 years of YouTube Music and YouTube Kids.

In addition, the vibrant interaction on YouTube in 2024 was a special highlight, with an average of more than 100 million comments sent every day. Content creators also showed positive feedback by making 10 million "likes" to comments from the viewer community.

It can be said that the key factor that creates YouTube's appeal lies in the connection between viewers and content creators. This is further demonstrated when, last year alone, an average of more than 3.5 billion "likes" were recorded on videos every day.

Explore YouTube's latest features

A small group of creators have been testing voice comments on their videos for the past year, and YouTube will roll it out to more creators later this year.

Now available on iOS and Android for all YouTube Premium and YouTube Music subscribers, Ask Music offers a great way to let music liven up any moment. The feature is currently available to English-speaking subscribers in select countries, with support for more languages and regions coming soon.

YouTube Premium now has 4x playback speed! YouTube Premium mobile subscribers now have more flexibility in adjusting video playback speed with options above 2x (e.g. 2.05x, 2.5x, 3x) and especially the latest 4x speed from YouTube.

In addition, the TV viewing experience will also be upgraded this summer 2025. YouTube brings the ability to navigate, customize playback... along with access to comments, channel information and subscription buttons right on the screen.

Information first "revealed"

YouTube is adding new features to enhance your experience. You can tap and hold anywhere on the video player to watch at double speed, lock your screen to avoid interruptions, or set a sleep timer to watch YouTube even when you’re about to fall asleep. If you’re short on time but still want to explore more, creators can now easily add related videos to their YouTube Shorts, including long-form videos, live streams, or other Shorts.

With YouTube Kids, the “Self-Approval” mode allows parents to proactively filter the content their children watch, creating a safe and appropriate entertainment space. And if you prefer to watch YouTube on your computer, the platform has equipped with convenient shortcuts such as using the left/right arrow keys to fast forward/rewind 5 seconds, or pressing the Spacebar to play/pause the video – a useful tool for short breaks at the office. And if you have a familiar tune playing in your head but can’t remember the name of the song? Try the Search Song by Humming feature to identify the song and add it to your playlist to enjoy anytime. This feature is now available on both the YouTube and YouTube Music apps for Android devices.

Today, on select videos, viewers may notice a progress bar and birthday-themed animation when liking a video. Additionally, when visiting YouTube on a computer, typing the keyword ' bday ' anywhere on the page will briefly take users back to the "old days" of YouTube.
