Yokohama FC announced contract extension with Cong Phuong

On the morning of January 7, Yokohama FC announced contract extensions for two players for the 2024 season, including Nguyen Cong Phuong. The Nghe An player continues to be associated with the Japanese team despite not contributing anything last season.

Nguyen Cong Phuong moved to Yokohama FC after his contract with HAGL expired. He moved his whole family to Japan.

In the 2023 season, Cong Phuong was not injured but was rarely used by coach Yomoda Shuhei. The striker born in 1995 was only registered for 2 matches against Sanfrecce Hiroshima and Nagoya Grampus in the J.League Cup. He was brought on the field in the last minute of the match against Nagoya Grampus on April 5.

After that, he still decided to stay in Japan and accept the situation of not playing on the field. Coach Troussier did not include Cong Phuong's name in the next training sessions, including the 2023 Asian Cup.
