Gastrointestinal cancers, including stomach cancer, colorectal cancer, esophageal cancer, liver cancer, pancreatic cancer, etc., are a group of common and dangerous types of cancer. Due to the complex and diverse nature of the disease, multidisciplinary consultations play a crucial role in the diagnosis and treatment process.
" The implementation of multidisciplinary consultations is a significant step forward in the first 'Cancer Prevention Plan' (Plan cancer), which was first implemented in France in 2003 and is now applied in most countries worldwide . These consultations help ensure collective treatment decisions, adhering to professional guidelines recognized by the international medical community ," shared Professor Thierry André – Professor of Oncology at the Sorbonne University (Paris, France), Head of Oncology at Saint Antoine Hospital (Paris, France), and Vice President of the GERCOR Multidisciplinary Oncology Research Group.
The professor stated that multidisciplinary consultations during the initial care of cancer patients are a crucial factor in ensuring the quality of subsequent treatment.

In all cases, the proposed treatment method must be discussed and decided within the framework of a consultation session involving all relevant specialists. This treatment method is individualized for each specific case, based on the cancer stage, the patient's physical condition, comorbidities, etc.
For a consultation to be effective, a minimum of three doctors from three different specialties are needed to comprehensively evaluate all treatment options. Doctors participating in consultations for the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal cancer typically include oncologists, gastroenterologists, surgeons, pathologists, and radiologists. In addition, treatment also requires the support of many other healthcare professionals such as nurses, psychologists, and nutritionists.

Following the consultation, the patient will be informed of the results, with the doctor clearly explaining the proposed treatment plan. The patient will be asked for their consent and encouraged to ask any questions related to the treatment and care process. The patient will also receive further guidance on practical matters, enabling them to better understand and prepare for their treatment.
Dr. Bui Quang Loc, Head of the Oncology Unit at the Vietnam-France Hospital in Hanoi, shared: "At the Vietnam-France Hospital in Hanoi, multidisciplinary consultations are conducted for each patient. This helps us diagnose cancer accurately and comprehensively, ensuring consensus among specialties, developing personalized treatment plans, and helping patients and their families better understand the treatment process."

With the advisory support of Professor Thierry André – one of the world's leading experts in medical oncology, especially gastrointestinal cancer – the Vietnam-France Hospital in Hanoi hopes to apply the results of the latest research from the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO), the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), and other reputable organizations worldwide in treating patients in Vietnam.
