In recent years, the collective economic sector, with cooperatives and cooperative groups as its core, has developed strongly. Previously, agricultural production in Yen Bai was mainly spontaneous, small-scale, unsynchronized, and had low product value. The establishment and development of cooperatives and cooperative groups have gradually changed that. Cooperatives and cooperative groups have reorganized production in a concentrated direction, synchronously applied technical advances, and invested in modern machinery and equipment to serve the preliminary processing and deep processing of products.

Located in the middle of the cinnamon region of Tran Yen district, the Vietnam Cinnamon Cooperative in village 5, Thanh Thinh commune is making a big change in developing cinnamon trees in the direction of goods, forming a value chain, opening the door to export, bringing high economic efficiency. Established in April 2017, the Cooperative has 22 members, developing a concentrated production area on an area of 90 hectares, with an average purchase output of 70 - 80 tons of cinnamon/month. With a modern production line, the Cooperative specializes in producing and processing cinnamon products with an output of 1,500 - 2,000 tons/year.

Currently, the Cooperative has been making a big change in developing cinnamon trees towards organic standard goods, forming a value chain, opening up export doors, bringing high economic efficiency to the people. To form a closed production chain, the Cooperative has coordinated with local authorities to mobilize and guide households to change traditional cinnamon production practices to organic methods. The Cooperative has signed a commitment to produce and consume products with households in the commune and neighboring areas.

To date, the cooperative has nearly 1,000 hectares of organic cinnamon with more than 800 farmer households in Thanh Thinh commune and neighboring communes such as Tan Dong and Hoa Cuong participating. In recent times, the cooperative has approached scientific and technical advances, applied new technologies to production and initially successfully built the Vietnamese cinnamon brand in foreign markets.

Mr. Nguyen Que Anh - Director of Vietnam Cinnamon Cooperative shared: "The main goal of the Cooperative is to increase the value of cinnamon products, so in addition to linking with cinnamon growers according to organic safety standards, we focus on innovating technological lines, focusing on deep processing to increase the economic value of the product".

Or the fish cage farming cooperative in Cam Nhan commune, Yen Binh district, established in 2018 in Ngoi Ke village, initially had only 7 members who were long-time fish farmers in the village. Up to now, the cooperative has grown to 18 members with 250 fish cages on Thac Ba lake, with a water surface area of about 15 hectares. The cooperative has linked households to buy fish fry and cheaper feed, support each other in safe biological farming techniques, consume output, and build a sustainable fish cage farming area. The cooperative's products are fresh fish, fish fillets, and vacuum-packed fish.

Currently, THT has stable consumption contracts with Yen Bai Seafood Joint Stock Company, some supermarkets in Hanoi such as Big C, Winmart... Thanks to that, THT's average annual fish output reaches 150 - 170 tons; the income of each member in THT reaches 400 - 600 million VND/year; THT's revenue reaches more than 7 billion VND/year.

In recent years, the collective economy, with cooperatives and cooperative groups as its core, has developed in both quantity and quality. By the end of 2024, the province had 829 cooperatives with nearly 34,000 members; over 5,700 cooperative groups with nearly 29,000 members. Cooperatives and cooperative groups operate effectively in many fields such as agriculture, industry, transportation, trade and services, construction, etc., creating more job opportunities and regular income for members and workers.

Average revenue in 2024 will reach 2.2 billion VND/cooperative, contributing over 53 billion VND to the State budget; average revenue of cooperatives is estimated at 385 million VND, average profit is 110 million VND/cooperative. Cooperatives and cooperatives have created hundreds of OCOP products and regional specialties such as: Suoi Giang Shan Tuyet tea, Muong Lo Seng Cu rice, Dai Minh grapefruit... meeting quality standards and exported to international markets.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Chien - Deputy Director of the Provincial Department of Industry and Trade shared: "The collective economy has been making important contributions to increasing the value of agricultural products. Cooperatives and cooperative groups are increasingly developing in scale, quantity and quality with products certified as organic safety, while creating a sustainable production chain for farmers to change their production mindset, creating high economic value for products".

The collective economy is gradually asserting its role as a "bridge" between production and the market, helping to increase the value of agricultural products and improve people's income. The initial results achieved have created a solid foundation for the collective economic sector to continue to develop, contributing positively to the goal of building new rural areas and developing the province's socio-economy. With the support of the government and the efforts of cooperatives and cooperative groups, the collective economy of Yen Bai province promises to go further.

Up to now, the products of the Vietnam Cinnamon Cooperative, Tran Yen district have been present in many international markets, especially in "difficult" markets such as the US, Japan, Korea, France... Products including cinnamon cigarettes, cinnamon tubes, cinnamon sticks, cinnamon powder, cinnamon essential oil all meet 3-star to 4-star OCOP standards.
