>> Yen Bai has implemented 150 projects to support production development under the National Target Program.
The poverty rate in Yen Bai province has dropped sharply from 18.07% in 2021 to only 5.68% by the end of 2024. This reduction is equivalent to 12.39%, an average annual reduction of 4.13%. Compared to the province's target of 3.3% reduction per year and the Central Government's target of 3% reduction per year, Yen Bai has made great progress.
In particular, in the two mountainous districts of Tram Tau and Mu Cang Chai, where poverty rates are high, the situation has also recorded positive changes. The average poverty rate of these two districts has decreased from 59.09% (end of 2021) to 33.4% (end of 2024), corresponding to an average reduction of 8.56% per year. Of which, Tram Tau district has decreased by an average of 6.89% per year and Mu Cang Chai district has decreased by an average of 9.45% per year. To achieve these achievements, Yen Bai has synchronously implemented many solutions, in which support policies play a key role.
The Vietnam Bank for Social Policies has become a "powerful arm" in supporting loans with a total turnover of VND 2,787 billion for 39,363 poor households, near-poor households and households that have just escaped poverty. By the end of 2024, there were 20,064 poor households with outstanding loans at the bank, accounting for about 98% of the total number of poor households eligible for preferential loans. The province has also invested VND 2,520.69 billion in education support policies, benefiting 1,614,359 students, including tuition exemptions, support for study costs, lunch money for preschool children and support for boarding students. On average, each year, over 60,350 students from poor and near-poor households receive educational support.
In addition, Yen Bai has spent VND1,383.5 billion to pay and support health insurance for 1,603,846 poor households, near-poor households, ethnic minorities and other policy beneficiaries. By the end of 2024, 158/168 communes, wards and towns in the province have met the national criteria on health, reaching a rate of 94%. The province also allocated VND76.3 billion to support electricity bills for 117,216 poor households and social policy households, ensuring their access to essential energy sources.
Yen Bai's synchronous and effective efforts and solutions in poverty reduction have brought about impressive results, contributing to changing the face of the province, improving the material and spiritual life of the people, and creating a driving force for sustainable socio-economic development.
