Yen Bai: Activities in response to Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day 2025 will take place from April 21 to April 27.

Implementing Decision No. 1862/QD TTg dated November 4, 2021 of the Prime Minister and towards the 50th anniversary of the complete liberation of the South and national reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), major holidays of the country and the province, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has issued a Plan to organize activities in response to Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day 2025 in Yen Bai province.

Meaning of Vietnam Book Day April 21

On April 21, 1927, the book "The Revolutionary Path" was compiled and published by the Propaganda Department of the Association of Oppressed Peoples. This is a collection of lectures by President Ho Chi Minh at training courses for cadres of the Vietnam Revolutionary Youth Association, held in Guangzhou (China) during the years 1925 - 1927. Therefore, April 21 was decided by the Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to be the Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day in 2014. Over the past 10 years, April 21 has always been an important event, contributing to promoting the reading movement in the community, raising people's awareness of the importance of reading for the development of the country.

Choosing April 21 as Vietnam Book Day is very important. This is the time to launch the first Vietnamese book, "Duong Kach Menh" by President Ho Chi Minh - the first work in Vietnamese printed by Vietnamese printers. President Ho Chi Minh is a great author, a cultural celebrity, his works are valuable not only to the Vietnamese people but also welcomed by international friends.

Choosing Vietnam Book Day to associate with a famous work of his will have profound cultural significance. In addition, April is also the time for World Book and Copyright Day (April 23), to honor reading culture, encouraging people around the world to discover the love of reading. Organizing Vietnam Book Day on this occasion shows the integration of Vietnamese reading culture with human culture, which will attract and captivate readers.

Vietnam Book Day is an important cultural event for book lovers and the whole community. It contributes to building an advanced Vietnamese culture with strong national identity. It is an occasion to honor the value of books, affirm the position, role and importance of books in social life. It honors readers and those who participate in collecting, composing, publishing, printing, distributing and preserving books. At the same time, it also contributes significantly to raising the responsibility of all levels and sectors for building and developing a reading culture in Vietnam.

2025 is the first year that the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has received and implemented the task of organizing Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day in the province. The 4th Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day in 2025 brings 3 messages: "Reading culture - Connecting the community", "Entering the era of national growth with books", "Reading books - enriching knowledge, nurturing aspirations, promoting innovation and creativity".

The activities are diverse, practical and suitable to the actual conditions of the locality, including: The opening program of the 4th Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day in 2025, held at Nguyen Hue High School to spread the reading culture in schools, connect books to students, the direct beneficiaries and create sustainable reading habits; Display, exhibition and Book Fair taking place from April 21 - 27, 2025 at Nguyen Hue High School; deploying mobile library vehicles to schools in the province; inviting speakers to exchange and introduce books at some schools; coordinating with Yen Bai Provincial Youth Union to organize a book drawing contest for students, this is a creative form to help them express their feelings about books through painting...

In addition, the Department has also launched and organized 02 meaningful competitions including the "Family Reading - Developing a Family Bookshelf Connecting Love" Competition and the "Yen Bai Province Reading Culture Ambassador 2025" Competition. These 02 competitions are for students in the province with the aim of discovering and honoring individuals with a love of books and the ability to spread reading culture in the community. This is a competition aimed at families in the whole province, encouraging the participation of many generations to read books and share the value of books in family life to honor the good cultural values ​​of Vietnamese families, thereby creating positive changes in awareness and actions about families to contribute to building a prosperous, progressive, happy and civilized family; towards Vietnamese Family Day (June 28); spreading and developing reading culture in each family and community; introducing the "Family Bookshelf" model; Encourage participation in building "Family Bookcases", "Clan Bookcases"... to encourage reading habits in the family, build a lifelong learning environment, and contribute to connecting generations through books.

In addition to provincial activities, districts, towns and cities in the province have also developed an organization plan with many response activities such as: Book Festival; displaying specialized books; giving books to students; organizing reading hours at schools and local libraries...

With the spirit of "Sowing the seeds of reading culture - Cultivating knowledge - Fulfilling dreams" and the message "Reading culture - Connecting the community", "With books, entering the era of national growth"; "Reading - enriching knowledge, nurturing aspirations, promoting innovation and creativity. Hopefully, through this series of activities, Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day 2025 is not only an occasion to honor books and readers, but also an opportunity to strongly spread the message "With books, entering the era of national growth", affirming the role of books in developing knowledge, culture and modern Vietnamese people.
