On December 2, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Peter Lerner said: "Throughout the day today, dozens of trucks carrying relief goods entered Gaza after being checked by Israeli security."
The move comes as the IDF continues to confront Hamas in the northern Gaza Strip. Earlier, local government representatives said the area needed at least 1,000 trucks of humanitarian aid and 1 million liters of fuel per day.
In another development, Mr. Mark Regev, Senior Advisor to Prime Minister Netanyahu, emphasized that Israel will facilitate the provision of humanitarian aid to civilians in the Gaza Strip.
On whether the Jewish state would seek a buffer zone on the Palestinian side of the Gaza Strip after the clashes ended, he said Israel would not accept a situation in which Hamas militants were stationed in the border area.
Also on the same day, speaking at a press conference after the week-long ceasefire ended, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said: "On the day of the ceasefire, our soldiers are ready for a complete victory over Hamas."
He insisted that military operations would continue “until we achieve all our goals”, including the repatriation of Israeli hostages and the elimination of Hamas.
For its part, in a statement on the same day, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry criticized the collapse of the ceasefire. According to the statement, the continued heavy Israeli airstrikes have resulted in new civilian casualties, marking a serious setback and “Israeli disregard for all efforts made in recent days to extend the ceasefire, avoid the shedding of innocent Palestinian blood and ensure the provision of additional urgent humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza.”
Egypt has once again warned of the risk of expanding Israeli military operations in the southern Gaza Strip and criticized Israel’s efforts to relocate Palestinians outside Gaza’s borders. Cairo asserted that this action is a “blatant violation” of Israel’s commitments and all provisions of international humanitarian law.
The North African country also reiterated its call on influential international actors and relevant United Nations (UN) bodies, in particular the Security Council, to fulfill their responsibilities in ensuring that Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip are protected, including by implementing relevant UN resolutions.
