Promoting consumption of early ripening lychee in Tan Yen district

On May 27, in Phuc Hoa commune, the People's Committee of Tan Yen district, Bac Giang province held a conference to connect and promote the consumption of early-ripening lychees and a ribbon-cutting ceremony to launch a convoy of trucks carrying lychees to domestic and foreign markets.

In 2024, Bac Giang province will maintain and strictly control 223 lychee growing area codes for export with an area of ​​about 17,198 hectares, and 39 facilities for packing fresh lychee for export. The forecasted lychee output of the whole Bac Giang province is 100,000 tons. Of which, early lychee is 50,000 tons and main crop lychee is 50,000 tons.

In 2024, Tan Yen district will have 1,420 hectares of lychee, with an output of about 15,500 tons and an estimated value of VND520 billion. Of which, the area of ​​early lychee is 1,250 hectares, with an estimated output of 15,000 tons, and the area of ​​main-season lychee is 170 hectares, with an estimated output of 300 tons.

The production area according to VietGAP standards ensures food safety and quality of 900 hectares; the GlobalGAP area reaches 455 hectares (maintains 415 hectares, expands 40 hectares), to serve export to the Japanese, US, and EU markets. The expected output of lychee meeting VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards is about 5,550 tons.

It is expected that about 7,800 tons (accounting for 50.3% of total output) will be consumed in the domestic market, about 7,700 tons (accounting for 49.7% of total output) will be exported, mainly to China, Japan, the US, the EU, Thailand, Cambodia, and South Korea.

Tan Yen district is managing 27 lychee growing area codes for export, including: 17 export area codes to the Chinese market with an area of ​​856 hectares, output of 10,200 tons; 3 export area codes to the Japanese market with an area of ​​25 hectares, output of 300 tons; 2 export area codes to Australia, area of ​​22 hectares, output of 260 tons; 2 export area codes to the US market, area of ​​21.4 hectares, output of 250 tons; 3 export area codes to the Thai market, area of ​​42 hectares, output of 500 tons.

Speaking at the conference, Ms. Lam Thi Huong Thanh, Standing Vice Chairwoman of the Bac Giang Provincial People's Council, said that Bac Giang lychees have now reached markets in over 30 countries and territories around the world. Many of these markets have strict requirements on product quality standards and Bac Giang has met the requirements.

The leader of Tan Yen District People's Committee said that the district has proactively connected and invited businesses to sign consumption agreements and about 10 businesses have planned and signed contracts to consume lychee for export with lychee growers. At the same time, the district has also prepared well for participating in programs and promotion conferences organized by the Provincial People's Committee; participating in displaying, introducing and promoting products at fairs and exhibitions in and outside the province.

In addition, the district also regularly directs and guides production to meet VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards and towards organic production models, continuing to better apply scientific and technical advances and experience in cultivation, so the quality of lychees this year is higher than previous years and Tan Yen early lychees have become a famous brand with a foothold for many years in markets of countries such as China, Japan, Australia, and the United States.

In the coming time, Tan Yen district will continue to expand the area of ​​growing area codes, packaging facility codes for export markets, standardize product designs and packaging, trace origin, build geographical indications, manage brands, ensure the production process creates good quality lychee products, beautiful designs, meeting market requirements.
