Amidst the pain and loss that the people of Myanmar are suffering after the devastating earthquake in recent days, the Vietnamese principal's letter of encouragement has warmed the hearts of Myanmar students.
The letter of encouragement written in two languages received much praise from the online community.
Sharing with reporters at noon on April 2, Dr. Hoang Van Phuc, Principal of Saigon Polytechnic College (Go Vap District), said that the school has more than 100 Myanmar students studying in different majors.
Immediately after the earthquake, the school proactively contacted and visited the students. Fortunately, most of the students' families were safe. However, some students had relatives affected. The school provided timely spiritual support and connected students with humanitarian aid organizations to help.

"We understand that this is not only a natural disaster but also a common pain of humanity" - Dr. Phuc shared.
The letter of encouragement posted on social media was praised by the online community for its delicacy in writing in both Vietnamese and Myanmar. In addition, the school also launched a movement, calling on lecturers and students of the school to support the people of Myanmar. Every contribution, big or small, is of great significance. The money raised will be used to buy food, clean water, medicine and shelter for those affected.
"I am currently working in Thailand and closely monitoring the situation. Thailand was also slightly affected by the earthquake, but fortunately there was no serious damage in areas with a large number of Vietnamese students. They continued to study normally, although they were still worried. We encouraged and instructed them on safety measures in case of natural disasters," said Dr. Phuc.
There are currently more than 100 Myanmar students studying at Saigon Polytechnic College.
Through this action, the principal hopes that international students studying at the school feel like this is a family - a place where no matter what country you come from, when you encounter difficulties, there will always be friends, teachers, and staff ready to share and help.
"In a world of many changes, compassion and sharing are the bridges that help people get closer together. I believe that, from small actions today, we will build a student community full of love and responsibility" - Mr. Phuc confided.
As of April 1, Myanmar had 2,719 people killed by the earthquake, 4,521 injured and 441 missing.
In neighboring Thailand, the death toll from the earthquake has risen to 21. Rescuers are still searching for survivors in the rubble of a collapsed skyscraper in the capital Bangkok.
