Ms. Ty Thy said that in nearly 6 years of doing business, selling Thai salad, there has rarely been a time when the restaurant has faced as many difficulties as the past 2 months. Pointing to the current space of the restaurant, the owner said that normally, the restaurant opens from 12 noon to 10 pm, but during this time frame, it is already crowded with customers. Now, the number of customers has decreased by 50%.

That is also the reason why at times, she had to bear the loss. Recently, due to difficulties, she "bitterly" reduced the salary of her employees from 9 million to 7.5 million VND. However, to come to this decision, she had to think a lot.

"Of my employees, 19 out of 20 are in difficult situations, most of them are from the LGBT community, all from the countryside who came to Saigon to work. I feel sorry and sympathetic for them if they reduce their salaries, but if they don't reduce their salaries, it will be difficult to survive during this period. I try to keep all my employees, I don't cut anyone," the owner expressed.

Despite the difficult business situation, she still feels lucky because thanks to the communication on social media channels with high interaction, she still maintains a stable number of customers for the restaurant. But if the situation like the past 2 months continues, the owner said the restaurant will face many difficulties.

All the staff at my restaurant are provided with food and accommodation, so we can save some money for you. In this situation, the salary will still decrease, staying at 7.5 million VND and cannot increase again...

Knowing the current situation of the restaurant, Ms. Ngoc (31 years old, from Ben Tre), an employee here for more than 2 years, said that she did not feel sad about not receiving a bonus or a salary cut because she understood the current difficulties of the restaurant. She said that this was a common situation, not just her restaurant, at this time still having a job to do, and the owner providing food and accommodation was already a blessing.

“But with less money, I have to be more careful with my spending, limit shopping and spending. Save money to go home to visit my family and shop for Tet. I hope that next year the restaurant will do well so that I can get a bonus. Last year, everyone got a bonus, which was quite good,” she recalled.

Ms. Men, a restaurant employee, said she shared with the restaurant owner that there would be no bonus this year. Besides, she also saved money to go home for Tet.

Ms. Men (19 years old, from Hau Giang) also said that she has worked at this restaurant for many years and is also an employee that the owner loves very much because of her diligence. Faced with the difficult situation, Ms. Men said that she shared with the restaurant, hoping that in 2024, the restaurant will recover.

Similar to her colleague Ms. Ngoc, Ms. Men said that this year she saved money to have a warmer Tet. Because here, she doesn't have to spend money on food and accommodation, limits shopping and entertainment, and still saves a little to go back to her hometown.

As a regular customer of this salad restaurant, Mr. Tran Thanh (56 years old, living in District 8) once learned about the restaurant on social media. He said that he often took his wife there to eat. He commented that unlike previous times when the restaurant was crowded, this time the restaurant was quieter during lunch time.

The salad at the restaurant has a rich flavor and is loved by many diners.

“Everyone is having a hard time now. Back then, I used to come here every week, but now I have to tighten my purse strings to celebrate Tet. I only come back occasionally when I crave food. This restaurant is delicious and the owner is cheerful, so I often support it," the customer said.

This year, Ms. Ty Thy said the restaurant plans to close for Tet on December 25. She hopes that in 2024, business will be better.
