Seafood exports bring in 8.3 billion USD for Vietnam in 10 months

According to the General Department of Customs, in October 2024, Vietnam's seafood exports reached 1.022 billion USD, up 22% over the same period in 2023. Thus, after more than 2 years, Vietnam's seafood exports reached more than 1 billion USD in a month. The last time seafood exports reached this milestone was in June 2022 with 1.006 billion USD. So far, the highest export turnover achieved in 1 month was 1.13 billion USD in April 2022.

In the first 10 months of this year, Vietnam's seafood exports reached 8.3 billion USD, an increase of 11% over the same period last year.

According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), among the key markets for Vietnamese seafood, the China - Hong Kong (China) market is growing most impressively.

In the third quarter of this year, seafood exports to China - Hong Kong (China) increased by 35.6% over the same period in 2023 and reached 571 million USD. In October, seafood exports to China - Hong Kong (China) increased by 37% and reached 212 million USD.

Due to the continuous high growth rate since the third quarter, by the end of October, China - Hong Kong (China) has become the largest market for Vietnamese seafood with a turnover of 1.533 billion USD, slightly higher than the second largest market, the United States (1.53 billion USD).

Shrimp, snails, crabs, etc. are the products that are actively contributing to the strong growth in seafood exports to China - Hong Kong (China). In the first 3 quarters of the year, Vietnam's shrimp exports to China increased sharply by 29%, in which whiteleg shrimp and lobster were the 2 species with the most impressive growth.

The sharp increase in live crab exports to China in recent months has helped crab exports in general increase by 59% in the third quarter, reaching 228 million USD. In the past 3 quarters, seafood exports to China increased by 30%, reaching 323 million USD. In general, in the seafood group, China is Vietnam's 4th largest market after Japan, the United States and South Korea.

Seafood exports to the United States in the past 10 months have also recorded positive growth, especially from the third quarter to now. In the third quarter, seafood exports to the United States reached 551 million USD, up 19.5% over the same period in 2023. In October, exports to this market increased by 31% over the same period.

In the first 10 months of the year, seafood exports to the US increased by 16% compared to the same period last year. Many other key markets also grew strongly in October such as Japan increased by 22%, EU increased by 27%, South Korea increased by 13%..., thereby contributing positively to the overall growth of seafood exports in the first 10 months of the year.
