In the first quarter of 2025, the whole province exported more than 9 million coconuts for drinking water.
Coconut continues to be a key commodity with many positive signals. Products such as: Desiccated coconut, coconut milk, coconut milk and coconut water all grew well in terms of output and value. Coconut water alone reached an output of more than 9 million fruits, exported to major markets such as: the United States, China, Korea and Europe, bringing in more than 12 million USD.
However, according to the Department of Industry and Trade of Ben Tre, the coconut industry also faces many challenges such as: The price of dried coconut has doubled compared to the end of 2024 (fluctuating around 200,000 VND/dozen (12 fruits), causing raw material costs to escalate. Processing enterprises have difficulty balancing signed contracts with old prices, leading to the risk of losses. Some units are forced to import coconuts from Indonesia or expand purchasing areas to neighboring provinces such as Tien Giang, Long An, Soc Trang, Vinh Long to maintain production and meet orders.
Domestic procurement competition has also become fiercer, especially from enterprises exporting to China. In response, many enterprises are accelerating investment in preservation, packaging and transportation technology to improve product quality.
Faced with this situation, the Department of Industry and Trade recommends that sectors and levels pay attention to supporting businesses through preferential capital policies, building a stable supply chain and promoting trade negotiations to protect Vietnam's coconut market share in the international market.
