"The Shepherd Playing the Flute" is a painting of rice being created on the Tam Coc fields (Hoa Lu, Ninh Binh). This promises to be an attractive tourism product to welcome people and tourists when coming to the upcoming Ninh Binh Tourism Week "Tam Coc Golden Color".
After the paintings "Festival Flags" and "Carp Watching the Moon", this year the Tam Coc art field continues to be renewed with the image of a buffalo boy playing the flute, inspired by the folk painting "Shepherd Playing the Flute".
As the "father" of these ideas, artist Nguyen Phuc Khoi said: "In 2022, we created the festival flag to honor the unique cultural and religious values of the ancient capital. In 2023, the painting "Ly Ngu Vong Nguyet" or Carp Looking at the Moon represents the desire for a good harvest, national peace and people's well-being. This year, the painting "Shepherd Playing the Flute" also carries the beautiful aspirations of the people".
Accordingly, the painting represents the people's wish for "favorable weather, favorable terrain, and favorable people" to always have bountiful harvests. The image of a handsome, cheerful boy sitting on a buffalo's back, surrounded by grass and trees, the vast sky and earth represents the desire to be in harmony with nature to have favorable conditions for crop growth and good crops.

Through the image of "the buffalo is the head of the family business" is also a thank you to the hard-working, gentle animal, always attached to the production activities of each farming family. Thereby reminding each person of the virtue of diligence and hard work in life.
The painting not only gives visitors a sense of the familiar, peaceful space of the Vietnamese countryside, but also praises the image of farmers who, in addition to growing rice, are constantly creating art, enjoying culture, and enriching their spiritual life.
As one of the cooperative members who has been chosen for many years to plant and care for the unique painting, Ms. Bui Thi Kiem, Van Lam Agricultural Cooperative, Ninh Hai Commune, Hoa Lu District, shared: This year's painting is more difficult because it has many complicated details such as eyes, nose, mouth, especially it has to show the fresh, relaxed expression of the boy and the buffalo. The buffalo in the painting has its ears perked up to listen, its feet jumping around as if dancing to the sound of the flute, its face is happy and full of life.
Although it requires high techniques, with the close guidance of the artist and agricultural officers and engineers, along with many years of experience creating shapes in the Tam Coc fields, the painting "Shepherd playing the flute" has now been completed and gradually shows clear color areas, promising a unique painting.

According to Mr. Pham Thai Thach, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hoa Lu district, Tam Coc field has an area of over 18 hectares along the waterway from Dinh Cac - Hang Ca - Hang Hai - Hang Ba. The painting "Shepherd playing the flute" alone has an area of nearly 10,000 square meters located in front of Hang Hai.
To support farmers in maintaining rice cultivation and creating beautiful landscapes for tourism, right from the beginning of the season, the Department coordinated with the District Agricultural Service Center to urge and guide Van Lam Cooperative to implement the "Tam Coc Golden Color" model.
At the same time, technical staff are regularly sent down to guide farmers in caring for and preventing pests and diseases for rice. Previously, the unit coordinated with the People's Committee of Ninh Hai commune to seriously organize the support of all fertilizers and rice seeds for farmers.

This year's rice variety is still Thai Xuyen 111, which has the characteristics of being hardy, resistant to pests and diseases, and suitable for the soil here. Although there were severe cold spells at the beginning of the season that affected the planting frame, thanks to active fertilization, up to now, Tam Coc rice fields are growing very green and evenly. Currently, the rice has passed the basal fertilization stage, and the commune members are focusing on care, pruning, and weeding to prepare for the top fertilization.
Tam Coc field was once honored as one of the five most beautiful rice fields in Vietnam. The attraction of this special field comes not only from the "hand" of nature but also from the intersection between nature and human, between the tranquility of the land and sky and the livelihood activities of the people.
The painting "Shepherd playing the flute" promises to be a unique tourism product, attracting visitors in the coming time, especially during the "Tam Coc Golden Color" Week. Thereby contributing to promoting the image and beautiful nature of the ancient capital to many domestic and international friends, while continuing to affirm Ninh Binh's commitments in preserving and passing on the outstanding global values of Trang An Heritage to future generations.
