"Manchester United have denied any idea or contact to replace Erik ten Hag with a new manager. Club sources assure us that the stories about a new manager are completely false," said transfer news journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Before that, right after MU lost 0-3 to Newcastle in the 4th round of the English League Cup, the pressure of being fired weighed heavily on coach Erik ten Hag. Former MU player Gary Neville posted a letter on social network X (former Twitter) harshly criticizing the Dutch coach.
"Yesterday (November 2), the Theatre of Dreams (Old Trafford) became the Theatre of Nothing. Manchester United fans were extremely disappointed and sad. On the pitch, the players played like they were in shock and lifeless. The manager was helpless before our eyes. We have seen this before and know what it leads to. We have had enough," wrote Gary Neville.
According to the Daily Mail (UK): "Gary Neville's message shows that MU Club will likely have to replace coach Erik ten Hag, due to the current disappointment being too great. Coach Erik ten Hag himself also admitted that MU's current form is below all standards that fans expect."
The Daily Mail and many other newspapers in the UK also published a long list of coaches who could replace Erik ten Hag, notably including former player Zinedine Zidane, German national team coach Nagelsmann, coach Conte and even former coach Solskjaer and former player Roy Keane.
However, firing coach Erik ten Hag will not be an easy problem for MU, as they have to pay at least 15 million pounds in compensation for a 3-year contract that is still valid. The Dutch coach joined MU in the 2022-2023 season from Ajax, with a salary of up to 9 million pounds/season. He is currently under contract until June 2025. Last season, coach Erik ten Hag helped MU finish 3rd in the Premier League, win the English League Cup and become runner-up in the FA Cup.
