In a recent episode of the Vietnamese Family Home program, MC Quyền Linh was deeply moved by the plight of a mother raising five children in a home that lacked even a toilet.
This is the story of Dinh Thi Luong, born in 2010, who currently lives with her mother and four sisters in Quynh Luu, Nghe An . Her father passed away two years ago from stomach cancer. Luong and her six siblings are living in a makeshift house built on her uncle's land.
The family of Dinh Thi Luong faces many difficulties; the mother single-handedly raises five children.
Without their own toilet, the family often has to use their neighbor's, which is extremely inconvenient. The family's main income depends on the mother's salary as a garment factory worker, which is 4.5 million VND per month.
Seeing their mother struggling, Luong's older sister had to study while also working at a restaurant to earn extra money to help support their mother. Despite their difficult circumstances, Luong and her sisters always remained optimistic, studied diligently, and achieved good academic results.
Witnessing the woman's situation, MC Quyền Linh was both surprised and moved. He sympathized with the woman who had to work hard, earning just over 4 million VND a month to support five children. The fact that the family, with four daughters, didn't have a toilet and had to constantly use a neighbor's bathroom also shocked the MC.
He admitted that he felt completely helpless in this situation. "Even the smallest thing we all have is a toilet, but my sister's house doesn't have one. It's such a difficult situation. It only costs about 3-4 million VND to build a toilet, but I don't know where we'll get the money to live, how can we possibly afford to build one?" he confided.
MC Quyền Linh decided to use his own money to support the family.
Having spent nearly 30 years traveling across the country and seemingly devoid of emotion due to encountering so many difficult situations, Quyền Linh still feels heartbroken for these struggling families. "It's already 2023, but there are still such unfortunate circumstances out there," the MC shared, urging everyone to skip a cup of coffee or a breakfast to help these families.
In particular, after hearing Dinh Thi Luong say that even when she needed to use the toilet at night, she had to hold it in so as not to disturb her neighbors, MC Quyen Linh decided to donate money from his own pocket to help the family build a toilet, so that they would not have to endure any inconvenience in their daily lives.
He also specifically donated 5 million VND to the family, hoping to give the children more strength, confidence, and motivation in life.
