Located on the shores of Lotus Lake (Buon Trap town, Krong Ana district), Xom Dao flower village, belonging to residential group 7, is a specialized flower-growing area of the district. At this time, the flower growers here are busy tending to their flower beds to serve the market for the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Dragon 2024.

Flower cultivation takes place year-round, but the Lunar New Year flower season always receives more attention and investment from growers, who place higher expectations on it.

In the fields, flower growers carefully prepare each row, meticulously tending to each flower. Having been involved in chrysanthemum cultivation for many years, Mr. Le Nguyen Huu Phuc shared that when growing flowers for Tet (Lunar New Year), he only hopes for favorable weather and stable flower prices so that he can have a prosperous Tet.

This year, his family planted 15,000 chrysanthemum plants in various colors for the Lunar New Year. If the weather is favorable from now until the Lunar New Year, the flowers will bloom on time and sell at a good price. Last year, they sold for 9,000-10,000 VND per flower, double the usual price. After deducting all expenses, his family earned nearly 20 million VND in profit. Currently, flower prices are starting to increase compared to last month, with beautiful cut flowers selling for 4,000 VND per flower.

This year, due to the difficult economic situation and consumers tightening their spending, flower growers are being cautious, monitoring the market and implementing intercropping to prepare for potential difficulties in selling their flowers. Ms. Lu Thi Do, a farmer specializing in gladiolus cultivation, said that her family owns 1.5 acres of land. From the end of September in the lunar calendar, she planted 7,000 gladiolus plants in various colors such as red, yellow, and orange on 1 acre. If the weather is favorable, the flowers will bloom in time for Tet (Lunar New Year). She uses the remaining land to grow chili peppers to supplement her income.

Reportedly, for this year's Tet flower season, flower growers in Xom Dao planted nearly 160,000 gladiolus bulbs and 300,000 chrysanthemum seedlings of various types, an increase of 1.5 times compared to last year's Tet flower season. Learning from last year's Tet flower season, where unfavorable weather conditions, including a cold spell during the budding period, caused the flowers to bloom late, this year the growers here carefully planted the seedlings at the right time, meticulously caring for the plants from soil preparation, fertilization, pruning, and watering. They also used solutions such as increasing electric lighting at night and covering the plants with black netting to help them grow faster and bloom in time for Tet.

According to Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hau, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Buon Trap town, in recent years, growing flowers for Tet (Lunar New Year) has become one of the economic development directions for farmers in Buon Trap town. Xom Dao flower village, a flower production area of over 3 hectares in Krong Ana district, has established a flower-growing cooperative with 18 households specializing in flower cultivation to serve the market during the full moon festival, holidays, and Tet. With the long-standing experience of the farmers and their focus on applying scientific and technical advancements in planting and caring for the flowers, as well as improving market access methods, the quality and economic value of each flower crop have steadily increased, contributing to improving the lives of the local people.
