At Hanoi Obstetrics Hospital, Ms. H. successfully underwent in vitro fertilization (IVF) and became pregnant after many years of waiting.
Throughout her pregnancy, Mrs. H. was closely monitored by doctors. However, at 35 weeks pregnant, she was hospitalized because her water broke early.
The situation became more complicated when she developed preeclampsia, a dangerous condition during pregnancy that can affect both mother and baby. Realizing the critical condition, the doctors decided to perform an emergency cesarean section.
Doctor Luu Thi Anh, deputy head of the examination department at Hanoi Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, said that because the mother's uterus was completely fibrotic and had no healthy muscle tissue left, accessing the fetus was very difficult.
Doctors had to make a 5cm deep incision in the uterus to find a way to get the baby out. The ruptured amniotic sac tightly clamped the fetus, making the prognosis for removing the baby extremely difficult.
Faced with that situation, the surgical team decided to expand the surgical field, make a T-shaped incision in the uterus and place forceps to assist in delivering the baby. After tireless efforts, a healthy baby boy weighing 2,100g cried out at birth, bringing overwhelming happiness to the whole family.
After ensuring the baby's safety, the doctors continued to treat the fibrotic uterus, performing a partial hysterectomy to protect Ms. H's long-term health.
The fibrotic uterine mass measuring 30 x 35cm and weighing nearly 5kg was removed. The surgery was a success, and Ms. H. recovered well after the surgery.
Mrs. H.'s journey to welcome her first child at the age of 54 is not only a source of happiness for her family, but also gives hope to many infertile couples.
Thanks to advances in diagnosis and treatment, cases once considered "impossible" now have the chance to become a reality.
With the dedication of doctors and the constant progress of medicine, the door to parenthood is increasingly open, bringing miracles to those who always yearn for a complete family.
