From May 25 to June 2, the working group of the Central Institute of Malaria, Parasitology and Entomology coordinated with the Lao Cai Provincial Center for Disease Control to conduct surveillance in a number of districts and communes in Lao Cai province during the peak malaria season. This is an activity under the Regional Initiative Project to Prevent and Eliminate Artemisinin-Resistant Malaria.
The delegation worked at the Bat Xat District Health Center, Sa Pa town and health stations in communes participating in the Regional Initiative for the Prevention and Elimination of Artemisinin-Resistant Malaria. This is an area with many epidemiological risk factors for malaria, such as outbreaks in previous years, the presence of disease vectors, and a large population movement.
The delegation took blood samples for malaria parasite testing for people in Nam Keng village, Lien Minh commune, Sa Pa district. At the same time, analyzed the situation and identified risk factors; monitored malaria prevention measures (number of mosquito nets and hammocks treated with long-lasting insecticides provided); investigated the number of mosquito nets in the population, interviewed, assessed people's understanding and acceptance of using mosquito nets, especially long-lasting insecticides. In addition, evaluated the operation of the microscopy site and testing capacity; statistical work, reporting on disease cases, investigating and classifying disease outbreaks.
The activity aims to support lower levels in monitoring, detecting, diagnosing, treating and implementing activities to prevent malaria from returning during the peak season, continuing to maintain malaria elimination results in Lao Cai province.
