The Mid-Autumn Festival is still nearly a month away, but at this time, the streets of Tuyen Quang city are already bustling. To have such giant, colorful lanterns is the effort and dedication of many people.
It has become a tradition that from around the beginning of the 7th lunar month, people (group 6, Minh Xuan ward, Tuyen Quang city) come together to come up with ideas to make mid-autumn lanterns. Ms. Dang Thu Huong shared: "Previously, my family mainly made star lanterns and animal lanterns. In the past few years, my family decided to switch to making mid-autumn lantern models for Minh Xuan ward. Realizing that the family's models have many unique features, gradually other residential groups in the area have come to order them. Up to now, some neighboring provinces have also come to order them."
"When looking at the Mid-Autumn lantern models, they must exude a sense of closeness and friendliness. Animals are often mischievous, so the drawings of parts such as hands, feet, eyes, noses, etc. should be as similar as possible to real life. Sometimes we can emphasize and stylize them, but in the end, the most important thing is still the soul...", said architect Vu Hoang Chau.
Each year there will be a different model to create novelty, models such as the dragon's descendants, "Au Co's love story" inspired by the legend of Lac Long Quan and Au Co giving birth to the dragon's descendants. Through that, we want to convey the message of love for the homeland, educating children to remember their roots for the younger generation.
The giant mid-autumn lantern model commemorating the 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu victory is an impressive highlight of this year's festival season.
Thanh Tuyen Festival has long become the unique and largest Mid-Autumn Festival in the country, with many records confirmed by the Vietnam Guinness Book of Records such as the festival with the most unique and largest Mid-Autumn lantern models in Vietnam, the festival with the largest Mid-Autumn Festival tray in Vietnam, the festival with the largest pair of lanterns in Vietnam.
