TPO - Russian media has just released a video of a Russian drone attack targeting the state-of-the-art RBS 70 air defense system provided to Ukraine by Sweden.
During reconnaissance, the Russian military discovered a Ukrainian-camouflaged RBS 70 air defense system near the village of Aleksandropol, north of the town of Ocheretino, Donetsk. The target was immediately destroyed by a Russian drone.
Sweden has delivered RBS 70s to Ukraine in early 2023 along with the Giraffe 75 short-range radar for use with these systems.
In early September 2024, Sweden announced its 17th military aid package, worth $443 million, to Ukraine. This package includes RBS-70s as well as ammunition for the system.
The RBS 70 is designed to destroy low-altitude targets such as helicopters and drones, and can take down targets at a distance of 8km and a maximum flight ceiling of 5km.
The entire RBS 70 system weighs 87kg, including the launcher, missile, mount and laser irradiation system. This air defense system can operate in independent mode or can be combined with a number of other missiles by surveillance radar to form an air defense battery. RBS 70 is capable of combat deployment within 30 seconds, reloading in 7 seconds.
The RBS 70 missile is 132cm long, 10.6cm in diameter, has a wingspan of 32cm and weighs 15kg. The missile uses a 1.1kg warhead, containing up to 3000 small fragments, which when exploded will shoot out fragments to destroy the target.
