Review historical footage of the Dien Bien Phu campaign

The Central Documentary and Scientific Film Studio screened the film Dien Bien Phu Documentary Days to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu victory.

On this occasion, the film studio decided to screen 6 films: Dien Bien Phu , Dien Bien Memories , Stories of Old Soldiers , Accompanying History , Sharing Fire with Dien Bien and Dien Bien Phu, Hope .

These are all works made by artists of the Central Documentary and Scientific Film Studio during the fiercest years of the war against the French colonialists and the process of building and developing the country up to the present day.

The film The Story of the Old Soldiers is the memoir of veterans who directly participated in the Dien Bien Phu campaign. The film, directed by Duong Ngoc Hoa, revolves around three of the six soldiers of the Dien Bien Phu battlefield who were sent to report their achievements to President Ho Chi Minh in 1954: Hoang Dang Vinh, Bach Ngoc Giap and Nguyen Xuan Mai.

With a shortened narration, the character's story helps viewers visualize more clearly the story of each veteran. That is the story of taking a piece of iron from the forge and stuffing it into his shirt to gain weight to apply for military service, the story of meeting Uncle Ho, talking with him... to the story of facing General De Castries in the French base at Dien Bien Phu...

The film The Story of Old Soldiers is the memoir of veterans who directly participated in the Dien Bien Phu campaign.

Not only depicting historical details, the documentary film Dien Bien Phu Days shows the audience the image of Dien Bien after 70 years of construction and development. Up to now, Dien Bien has become a bright spot in the Northwest region with its appearance changing every day. The film Accompanying History directed by Meritorious Artist Nguyen Quang Tuan and Nguyen Anh Ngoc partly tells this journey.

This is the only film out of 6 films made and produced in 2024, summarizing the campaign's developments, significance and lessons learned from the historic Dien Bien Phu victory.

After the victory, Dien Bien soldiers, youth volunteers, and frontline militia chose Dien Bien as their new homeland. Together, they contributed to reviving the old battlefield. After 70 years, Dien Bien today has a new look as a revolutionary land in the period of integration and development.

The Dien Bien Phu documentary days are expected to become a bridge between the audience and the nation's history, between the heroic land of Dien Bien and the whole country so that generations will forever be grateful, thankful and proud because our ancestors made the history and position of Vietnam today.
