Việt NamViệt Nam31/07/2023

Today (July 31), Hyundai Thanh Cong Vietnam Automobile Joint Venture (HTV) officially distributed the IONIQ 5 electric car model manufactured in Vietnam with a selling price from 1.3 billion VND (including VAT).

In 2022, in response to the Government's orientations to focus on developing environmentally friendly vehicles, Hyundai Thanh Cong introduced the IONIQ 5 electric vehicle - a high-end electric vehicle of Hyundai Motor and received many positive responses from the market.

Over the past year, HTV and its partners have researched and evaluated products and actual operating conditions in Vietnam, as well as developed solutions to meet customer and market needs. With the results achieved, the IONIQ 5 model has been officially produced at Hyundai Thanh Cong Factory No. 2 (HTMV2), a modern factory inaugurated and put into production from the end of 2022.

This is an important milestone, marking the first time a high-tech electric vehicle model of Hyundai Motor has been produced in Vietnam, laying the foundation for the next models to appear and bringing customers a complete electric vehicle ecosystem, bearing the mark of Hyundai Motor as well as Thanh Cong Group.

Strategic electric vehicle products of Hyundai Thanh Cong Vietnam

IONIQ 5 is considered a standard electric car and a pioneer in the electric car industry in particular as well as the future car development trend with a series of prestigious awards.

Most recently, IONIQ 5 received the trio of awards Car of the Year, Electric Car of the Year and Car Design of the Year at the 2022 New York International Auto Show (World Car Award 2022). Previously, IONIQ 5 also received Car of the Year awards in Germany, UK, and Europe.

IONIQ 5 is built on the E-GMP (Electric Global Modular Platform) platform used for Hyundai's most advanced electric vehicles. IONIQ 5 is a pure electric BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) with a battery system that meets the most advanced 400V/800V dual-electric structure, allowing compatibility with a 350kW DC fast charger with a charging speed of 10 - 80% in just 18 minutes and 56 minutes with a 50kW charging station to charge from 20 - 80%. If using an AC charger with a capacity of 7.7 - 10.9 kW, it only takes about 6 ~ 9 hours to fully charge 100%.

The IONIQ 5 model manufactured in Vietnam possesses all of Hyundai's most advanced battery charging technologies, using a motor located on the rear axle with 2 battery versions:

IONIQ 5 Prestige: This version is equipped with a 72.6 kWh battery for a capacity of 217 horsepower and a maximum torque of 350Nm. The vehicle's travel distance is 451km according to WLTP standards. This version is equipped with 20-inch rims and Michelin Pilot Sport Ev tires sized 255/45 R20.

IONIQ 5 Exclusive: This version is equipped with a 58 kWh battery for a capacity of 170 horsepower and a maximum torque of 350Nm. The vehicle's travel distance is 384km according to WLTP standards. This version is equipped with 19-inch rims and 235/55 R19 tires.

Core platform technologies

E-GMP: This is Hyundai Motor's exclusive electric vehicle development platform through modularization and standardization, which can respond more quickly to increasingly diverse market needs. All current Hyundai Motor electric vehicle models such as IONIQ 5, IONIQ 6 and the upcoming IONIQ 7 to Genesis electric vehicles are all built on this platform.

This E-GMP allows the vehicle to maximize the power and product characteristics that the manufacturer aims for in the segment; it also ensures the safety of passengers in a highly protective body, while providing outstanding spaciousness.

Powertrain: Similar to the internal combustion engine, the IONIQ 5's powertrain includes a PE system that converts electrical energy from the battery into kinetic energy, a VCMS vehicle charging management system, an integrated charge controller ICCU that allows two-way energy exchange such as charging peripheral devices or recovering kinetic energy; the vehicle control unit VCU is responsible for controlling vehicle functions.

In particular, the EV Transmission (EV Transimission) takes on the function of a gearbox as well as drive management like an internal combustion engine. The IONIQ 5's electric motor can reach a rotation speed of 15,000 rpm very early after pressing the accelerator, helping the vehicle's speed response become quick without the delay of a traditional internal combustion engine vehicle.

Fuel cell system: IONIQ 5 uses Lithium batteries with the advantage of high energy density, helping to increase the vehicle's travel distance without being limited by size. On IONIQ 5, the battery system is protected by layers of "armor" against physical collisions and a relay system that automatically shuts off when overheating or an incident is detected, limiting the risk of unsafety from fire or explosion.

i-Pedal smart accelerator : i-Pedal on IONIQ 5 helps accelerate, decelerate or stop the car with just the accelerator. In addition, the braking force customization system will optimize the journey and braking force during operation, helping the driver always feel most comfortable when driving. These are interesting features that have never appeared on models using internal combustion engines.

Smart Sense safety system

IONIQ 5 is still guaranteed to be a safe, smart car when traveling on the road with the support of the SmartSense safety system and other basic safety technologies: ABS anti-lock braking system; BA emergency brake assist system; EBD brake force distribution system; TCS traction control system; VSM anti-slip stability system; ESC electronic balance system...

IONIQ 5 is ready to reach Vietnamese customers

Each IONIQ 5 sold is equipped with a standard 2.5 KW AC charger. In addition, Hyundai Thanh Cong Vietnam (HTV) will give customers who order IONIQ 5 a premium home charging solution package to help make their use and travel more convenient. In addition, HTV is also developing a nationwide charging station network with partners, aiming to cover 80% of provinces and cities by 2024.

IONIQ 5 is produced in 2 versions Prestige and Exclusive, including 3 colors: Black, White & Silver. The car is provided with a 5-year or 100,000km warranty, whichever comes first. For the battery system, the car is covered by an 8-year or 160,000km warranty, whichever comes first.

IONIQ 5 selling price (including VAT): IONIQ 5 Prestige: 1.45 billion VND; IONIQ 5 Exclusive: 1.3 billion VND.
