Pham Thi Loan (11A3 student at Luc Ngan High School No. 3, Bac Giang) shared with Tuoi Tre Online when she came to receive the scholarship "Preventing dropouts for students affected by storm No. 3" organized by Tuoi Tre newspaper in collaboration with Bac Giang Provincial Youth Union on September 27.
At the ceremony, the organizing committee awarded 100 gifts worth 3 million VND/person to 100 students and 10 gifts worth 5 million VND/person to 10 teachers in Bac Giang province.

Among the 100 students who came to the Bao Son Commune People's Committee Hall (Luc Nam District) to receive scholarships today, Loan attracted attention because she did not wear a white shirt or traditional costume like her friends. Loan wore a faded shirt and sat attentively reading a book.
The 11th grade girl has a small figure and a more miserable face than her peers who have very special circumstances.
Talking about my family background, I have shed tears many times.
Loan said that she and her younger brother (in 5th grade) lost their father when they were young and are currently living with their mother and grandmother.
"My mother's health is also poor. She stays at home and only does small jobs like growing vegetables to eat and sell for living expenses.
But the rain and flood caused the vegetable garden to be ruined, now there is nothing left because everything is rotten and spoiled.
The storm caused the metal roof to fly in, damaging my bicycle. My mother bought the bicycle before I was born. The bicycle broke down, so my sister and I have to take a friend to school every day. My house is about 3km from school, my sister and I just want a new bicycle to take each other to school" - Loan said.
Loan said her family is poor so they receive monthly allowance. Her grandmother saves the money she receives each month to pay for her and her sister's school fees and for the family's expenses.

"Before the floods, on weekends off from school, I would go with my mother to work in the fields and grow vegetables. Sometimes people hired my mother to help with planting or picking weeds, and I would go with her.
My mother is in poor health, so the wages we earn from working for her and me are usually calculated as one person. There was a time when I went with my mother to plant rice all day and was paid 150,000 VND" - Loan said.
Although she lives in the "capital" of growing lychees in Luc Ngan, Loan said her family only grows a few lychee trees.
"When it was harvest time, my grandmother asked me if I wanted to eat it or sell it. I usually told her to sell it so I could have more money to spend and study. But this year, the harvest was bad, and my family only sold it for 200,000 VND" - Loan said sadly.
When asked about her biggest wish, Loan still only mentioned a new bicycle so that the two of them could ride to school together.
"If I don't have to buy a bicycle, I will give this money (3 million VND) to my grandmother to pay for my two sisters' school fees" - Loan said.

Dream of becoming a history teacher
Taking Loan to receive the scholarship to prevent dropping out of school, Ms. Tran Thi Van (homeroom teacher of class 11A3, Luc Ngan 3 High School) shared that because Loan's family had no relatives to take her, the teachers brought her here.
"On the way to the conference hall to wait for the scholarship, I still held my books to study. Loan's learning spirit is very high," said Ms. Van, adding that in grade 9, Loan won a third prize in history at the provincial level.
In grade 12, Loan continued to be accepted by teachers into the school's review class to participate in the provincial history competition.
"Since Loan entered high school, the school and teachers have learned about and understood her situation. If there are any support programs, they will ask for them and share them with her.
The teachers in the school board also support books, pens, and uniforms so that I can go to school like other students," said Ms. Van.
