At approximately 2 PM on February 15th, a fuel tanker with license plate 63C-094.49, driven by a male driver, was traveling on the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong expressway from Ho Chi Minh City towards the Mekong Delta.
Upon reaching Tan An City, Long An Province, the vehicle suddenly burst into flames. The driver quickly steered the vehicle onto the highway access road leading to National Highway 62 (in Loi Binh Nhon commune, Tan An City) and pulled over to the side of the road, using a fire extinguisher to control the fire.
Authorities extinguished the fire in the tanker truck.
Upon discovering the fire, local residents assisted the driver in extinguishing it, but it proved very difficult.
Upon receiving the report, the Long An Provincial Fire Department dispatched two vehicles and numerous officers and soldiers to the scene to extinguish the fire.
Approximately 20 minutes later, the fire was brought under control and completely extinguished.
According to initial reports, the driver sustained minor injuries to his face and hands while attempting to approach the burning vehicle to extinguish the flames. He was subsequently assisted and taken to the hospital for examination and medical care.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong Expressway management unit, the incident occurred on the access road and did not affect vehicles currently in traffic.
The cause of the incident is currently under investigation by the authorities.
