April 21 of each year is chosen by the United Nations (UN) as the World Creativity and Innovation Day to raise awareness of the role of creativity and innovation in socio-economic development, building a sustainable society and promoting all-round human development.

At the ceremony to respond to the World Creativity and Innovation Day 2025 held on the afternoon of April 21 in Hanoi, Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Manh Hung emphasized that for Vietnam, Creativity and Innovation Day on April 21 is not only a day for scientists or technology enterprises, but also a day to honor the creative thinking of everyone in all industries and fields (farmers improve agricultural machinery, students create learning products), encourage the spirit of "dare to think, dare to do, dare to innovate" in the whole society, connect creativity and innovation with sustainable development.

According to Minister Nguyen Manh Hung, the Politburo has assigned the Ministry of Science and Technology to write a National Startup Project, the main content of which is to form a spirit of innovation among the entire population, making innovation a way of life for all people and organizations. Building a culture of innovation, encouraging discovery, and tolerating failure.

Innovation is the driving force for development, promoting innovation is promoting development, planning for innovation is planning for the future. Innovating scientific and technological activities to focus on solving major national problems.

If we want creativity and innovation to become universal, we must undergo comprehensive digital transformation, digitize the entire real world, and bring all activities to the digital environment. The digital environment is the ideal environment for all ideas to materialize the fastest, because it is non-physical, non-distance, and non-contact. Vietnamese innovation must be placed in the context of national digital transformation.

According to the head of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Vietnamese people develop their greatest potential when an activity is transformed into a national movement, from resistance to economic innovation, from education to digital transformation. This is a very unique cultural-social strength and must be considered a pillar in the national innovation development strategy. A strategy based on culture will certainly succeed, a strategy not based on culture will often fail.

"April 21 is both the Global Creativity and Innovation Day and the Vietnam Innovation Culture Day. Vietnam not only develops science and technology, but also nurtures a culture of innovation for all people. Arousing the spirit of innovation for all people in the digital age, expanding innovation beyond the laboratory to businesses, schools, offices, communities and localities. Every year on this occasion, we will organize the Innovation Week, launching the movement "Each citizen has an idea for improvement, each civil servant innovates from the smallest things," said Minister Nguyen Manh Hung.

Finally, Minister Nguyen Manh Hung emphasized that building a culture of innovation for all people will be the core to create success for the breakthrough in science and technology development, innovation and digital transformation of Vietnam that the Party Central Committee and General Secretary To Lam have launched.

2025 is the fourth year that the Ministry of Science and Technology has organized the Ceremony in response to World Creativity and Innovation Day. The theme in response to World Creativity and Innovation Day 2025: "Innovation - Think differently, Do differently for better"; "Innovation - Pioneering enterprises - Prosperous nation"; "Innovation for all people - Comprehensive digital transformation - For a better life."
