On September 19, Binh Dinh Hospital (Pham Ngoc Thach Street, Quy Nhon City, Binh Dinh) held a signing ceremony of a cooperation agreement with the Center for Health Environment Research and Development (CHERAD) on the joint implementation of the initiative "Building a circular economic model in medical plastic waste management".

Accordingly, the two sides will pilot the construction of a circular economy model in medical plastic waste management, including reviewing plastic waste management at hospitals, conducting training sessions and communication activities.

Units signed a cooperation agreement to implement the initiative "Building a circular economic model in medical plastic waste management"

This initiative aims to reduce and sustainably manage medical plastic waste through the application of a circular economy model with a collective impact approach, thereby reducing the generation of medical plastic waste, while increasing the proportion of medical plastic waste recycled and reused in hospitals.

According to statistics, on average, Binh Dinh Hospital receives about 225 inpatients and more than 800 outpatients every day. Therefore, the amount of waste from patients and their relatives is very large.

According to Dr. Ho Viet My, Director of Binh Dinh Hospital, the hospital and CHERAD's cooperation in implementing the initiative "Building a circular economic model in medical plastic waste management" will change the habits and awareness of medical staff as well as patients and their families here about classifying medical plastic waste, contributing to protecting the medical environment in particular and the environment of the earth in general.

"We will work closely with CHERAD and related units to successfully implement this model. The signing of the cooperation agreement between Binh Dinh Hospital and CHERAD is an important milestone and a necessary basis for the two sides to implement pilot activities and mobilize the participation and cooperation of many stakeholders in the effort to reduce medical plastic waste at Binh Dinh Hospital in particular and medical facilities in Vietnam in general," said Mr. My.

Binh Dinh Hospital is honored to be the first private hospital in the Central Highlands region to participate in the pilot model of the initiative under the "Pollution Reduction" project managed by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment with funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through Winrock International.
