Verifying information about student violence at Cao Mai Secondary School

In recent days, a clip has been circulating on social media, recording a scene of a boy being bullied, beaten and cursed at by his classmates in the bathroom. Not stopping there, he was also forced to commit an offensive act while being completely unable to resist. Notably, the student who committed the violent act was also the one who filmed the entire incident.

The incident was determined to have occurred on April 16. Speaking to reporters, Mr. Tran Duc Hung - Principal of the school confirmed that the incident had occurred at the school. On the night of April 16, the school directed the homeroom teacher to notify the parents of the students.

On the morning of April 17, Cao Mai Secondary School held a meeting with both the parents and the victimized student and the parents and the student who committed the violent act. At this meeting, the offending student admitted his mistake and his family apologized to the student and the family of the abused student.

Mr. Tran Duc Hung - Principal of Cao Mai Secondary School informed about the incident

“After working with the student’s parents, the school asked the homeroom teacher to discipline the student in class according to regulations, and submitted the documents for the school to organize a disciplinary council. We also reported the incident to Lam Thao Town Police, the Department of Education and the District People’s Committee for information and direction,” said the Principal of Cao Mai Secondary School.

Mr. Hung also shared: the family and the student have agreed with the school's handling. However, the clip being spread online has led to many negative comments, affecting the school's image. Currently, the police are continuing to monitor and handle the incident according to regulations.

According to principal Tran Duc Hung, the cause of the incident was largely due to the impulsiveness and lack of emotional control of the students – who were only in 6th grade and still immature in terms of awareness. The incident was also related to a number of other complex factors, including the influence of family circumstances and the psychological difficulties the students encountered while growing up.

The incident shows the need for closer coordination between families, schools and relevant forces in educating, managing and providing psychological support for students. Early detection and timely intervention will help prevent similar unfortunate consequences.
