Specifically, according to information from the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), the Southeast Asian U23 Championship will take place from July 15-31 in Indonesia. This is the first time Indonesia has won this tournament, since its inception in 2005.

In the 4 times of organization, U23 Vietnam is the team with the most achievements with 2 championships in 2022 and 2023, with a strong mark from coach Hoang Anh Tuan. Talking to Tien Phong this morning, a VFF leader said that the upcoming tournament will be carefully prepared by the U23 Vietnam team, because this is determined to be an important premise towards the 33rd SEA Games (Thailand).

Due to regulations from the host country, participating teams will not be allowed to use over-age players at the 33rd SEA Games. The new regulations are expected to prevent Vietnam from being able to exploit its strengths in previous SEA Games as the U22 team will be able to fully utilize the support from the Vietnamese national team players.

“We consider this an opportunity for young players to gain experience. The immediate goal is to prepare for the 33rd SEA Games and, in the future, achieve higher goals,” said the VFF leader.

Under coach Kim Sang-sik, the Vietnamese team is undergoing a strong "blood change" in its squad, with young players being given more opportunities to play. Some potential young faces are therefore showing increasing progress. According to the VFF's assessment, Thailand and host Indonesia will be the two main rivals in the race for the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship.
