Thach Yen commune creates livelihoods and increases income for people

The pig farming model of Mr. Bui Van Hon's family, Bai Thom hamlet, Thach Yen commune (Cao Phong) provides stable income.

Comrade Bui Van Hau, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thach Yen commune, said: "To gradually reduce poverty and increase income, the commune has increased propaganda to raise awareness among people, bringing suitable plants and breeds into production, in which, orienting people to develop cattle and pig farming, growing sugarcane, fruit trees and developing forestry. Taking advantage of investment capital sources and poverty reduction policies, the commune focuses on building and completing infrastructure and roads to serve production and facilitate trade of goods. In addition, the commune focuses on developing services, cultural tourism, and diversifying sources of income."

The commune mobilizes people to change their thinking and farming practices, apply science and technology, promote promotion, and find outlets for product consumption. Currently, the whole commune cultivates 353 hectares of rice, 35 hectares of corn, 90 hectares of sugarcane, and 42 hectares of fruit trees. From 2024 to present, the commune has planted 165 hectares of new forests, with a coverage rate of 50.5%. The whole commune has over 1,100 buffaloes, nearly 400 cows, 2,500 pigs, 250 goats, 26,000 poultry, and 800 bee colonies. Households focus on preventing hunger, cold, and disease for livestock, and disinfecting barns, thereby causing no damage.

Supporting people in production and economic development, Thach Yen commune coordinated to organize training courses on livestock farming techniques and pest control. Building and developing 2 4-star OCOP products, namely sticky rice wine and sugarcane wine, gradually affirming the brand and reputation in the market. Currently, the total outstanding debt from the Social Policy Bank in the area reached 63.8 billion VND with 1,023 borrowers; the Agricultural and Rural Development Bank has an outstanding debt of 32.8 billion VND, through 17 savings and loan groups with 412 borrowers, mainly borrowing for production - business, creating jobs for workers.

Visiting the production model of Mr. Bui Van Hon, Bai Thom hamlet, Mr. Hon shared: "My family used to be a poor household, with economic difficulties, farming purely with rice, not abundant. Having participated in technical training courses organized by the district and commune, my family boldly invested in comprehensive farming and livestock farming. Currently, my family cultivates 5,000m2 of white sugarcane, 1 hectare of acacia, raises 6 buffaloes, 14 pigs, 60 Canh orange trees, bringing in a more stable income, with savings".

Thach Yen commune has done a good job in mass mobilization, mobilizing people to contribute money, working days, donate land, and participate in new rural construction movements, especially in building rural roads. Thanks to the State's investment capital and the people's contribution, 100% of the commune's main roads are concreted; over 80% of the hamlet's main roads are concreted; the alleys are not muddy in the rainy season, many sections are concreted; the irrigation system is regularly repaired, dredged, and cleared to serve production, contributing to changing the face of the countryside.

Thach Yen has majestic, wild mountain scenery, friendly and hospitable people, which is also the potential for developing eco-tourism and community tourism. In mid-May, late June or early November every year, visitors coming here will admire the beauty of the golden terraced fields, an ideal check-in point for those who love to experience and explore. Every year, on holidays and Tet, people from all over come to Khanh Pagoda to visit, sightsee, pray for blessings, pray for wealth, learn about historical values ​​and revolutionary traditions.

Continuing to invest in infrastructure, roads, supporting socio-economic development, from 2024 to present, the commune has mobilized over 2,310 working days to clear ditches, 1,750 working days to do irrigation, maintain and repair works serving the people's daily life and production. Implementing the campaign "All people unite to build new rural areas, civilized urban areas", the commune mobilized 12 households to donate 1,454m2 of land to repair, upgrade and build infrastructure and traffic works in the area. Currently, the average income per capita of the commune reaches 35.3 million VND/year. The commune meets 16/19 new rural criteria.
