At a press conference on the evening of June 15 (this morning, June 16, Vietnam time), Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said the youngest victim in the shooting was only 8 years old. He added that he did not know the condition of the victims with "various types of injuries," according to Fox News.

Mr. Bouchard said police were on the scene within two minutes of receiving a call about the incident at about 5:11 p.m. on June 15 (US time).

Mr Bouchard said the suspect appeared to have gotten out of the car, started shooting and then left the Brooklands Plaza Splash Pad in a “random act”. He said the suspect fired about 30 shots from a 9mm semi-automatic Glock, reloading multiple times.

The suspect was also "under arrest" at a house near the scene and authorities were trying to obtain a search warrant, Bouchard said.

Sheriff Bouchard advised those sheltering in the recreation area to go home and asked people to stay away from the area if they were sheltering at a nearby location.

CNN quoted Mr. Bouchard as saying that investigators believe there are likely more weapons in the house but it is unclear whether the suspect had access to them.

The sheriff called the new shooting shocking and stressed the community was still reeling from a 2021 shooting at a high school in Oxford, about 15 miles north of Rochester Hills, that left four students dead.

“We haven’t even fully understood what happened in Oxford and now we’re facing a completely different tragedy,” Mr Bouchard said.
