
Accordingly, the United Nations Vesak Festival is a cultural activity of the United Nations, also known as the Three-Hop Festival commemorating the birth, enlightenment and nirvana of Buddha Shakyamuni. This is a cultural and religious festival for peace. Since 2000, the United Nations Vesak Festival has been held 19 times in many places around the world , of which Vietnam has had the honor of hosting 3 times.
The 20th United Nations Day of Vesak this year is hosted by the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Ho Chi Minh City from May 6 to 8, 2025 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), and the 80th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025).

This will be a very meaningful international cultural diplomacy event of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha and our country in 2025. This is also an opportunity to affirm to the international community the consistent policy of respecting and ensuring freedom of belief and religion of the Party and State of Vietnam; about the reality of religious freedom in Vietnam...
The main theme of the 2025 United Nations Day of Vesak is “Solidarity and Tolerance for Human Dignity: Buddhist Wisdom for World Peace and Sustainable Development”. The main activities and international conferences within the framework of the 2025 United Nations Day of Vesak will take place at the Hall of the Vietnam Buddhist Academy, Le Minh Xuan campus, Binh Chanh district, Ho Chi Minh City. Along with that, the enshrinement of Buddha's relics at Thanh Tam Pagoda (next to the Academy); the enshrinement of Bodhisattva Thich Quang Duc's heart relics at Vietnam National Temple (3-2 Street, District 10) has attracted the attention of many people and Buddhists.

On May 2, the Organizing Committee is expected to welcome and enshrine the Buddha relics, the national treasure of India, at Thanh Tam Pagoda, Lang Le Park and the Vietnam Buddhist Academy, Le Minh Xuan campus, Binh Chanh District. On May 3, the opening ceremony of the worship of the Buddha relics, the national treasure of India, will take place at Thanh Tam Pagoda, lasting until May 8.
After that, the Buddha's relics were brought to be enshrined at the Ba Den Mountain National Tourist Area (Tay Ninh province) from May 8 to 13; at Quan Su Pagoda (Hanoi) from May 13 to 15; at Tam Chuc Pagoda (Ha Nam province) from May 17 to 21, then brought back to India.

Regarding the heart relic of Bodhisattva Thich Quang Duc, the Organizing Committee will enshrine and organize for the first time for Buddhists and people to pay homage at Vietnam National Temple, 3-2 Street, District 10, Ho Chi Minh City, after nearly 50 years of being kept at the State Bank of Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City. After the time of organizing the pilgrimage, the heart relic of Bodhisattva Thich Quang Duc will be permanently placed at Da Bao Tower at Vietnam National Temple.
According to the Organizing Committee, through the diverse activities of the 2025 United Nations Day of Vesak in Ho Chi Minh City, international friends will have a deeper understanding of the historical and cultural traditions of Vietnamese Buddhism over more than 2,000 years of accompanying the nation, the unique spirit of engagement of Vietnamese Buddhism, the great contributions of Buddhism in the cause of building and defending the country, and in the achievement of national unification.
