Leveraging the synergy of consumer and retail platforms
Recently, Masan said that WinCommerce (the company operating the WinMart/ WinMart/WiN retail chain) achieved VND 7,844 billion in revenue in the second quarter of 2024, and has had a profit after tax since June. The 9.7% growth in June was achieved thanks to increased store traffic and effective cost control.
As of June 2024, WinCommerce operates more than 3,600 points of sale, expanding 40 new stores since December 2023 with a variety of retail models (WinMart supermarkets, WinMart / WiN stores) serving all consumer segments from urban to rural areas.
In Vietnam, WinCommerce is the only modern retailer with the leading advantage in terms of scale of points of sale combined with the strength of consumer goods production of Masan Consumer - a subsidiary of Masan and owns an internal logistics company, Supra. This creates many opportunities for WinCommerce to dominate the "race" for domestic retail market share.
Starting out as a consumer goods manufacturing company, Masan has strengths in researching and developing new products, building strong brands and understanding consumers.
By the end of 2023, Masan Consumer owns 5 brands with revenue of over 2,000 billion VND including CHIN-SU, Omachi, Kokomi, Nam Ngu, Wakeup 247.
These are all strong brands in major product categories. To build "love brands" (brands loved by consumers), Masan always puts a deep understanding of market needs first.
WinMart with new shopping space combined with great promotion programs attracts the attention of consumers.
In June 2023, Masan's Consumer Innovation Center (CIC) came into operation.
Masan aims to build 5 CIC Centers across Vietnam. The CICs operate on the principle of simulating real life in households so that consumers can directly experience and contribute ideas for product development.
Information from real-life experiences is the infrastructure and large database, playing a core role for consumer insight research activities at the center to achieve 4 criteria: Accuracy, Speed, Security and Cost Optimization. From there, increase the success rate of new brands before launching to the market.
In addition, other strong brands of Masan such as WinEco clean vegetables and MEATDeli cool-aged meat also act as "conduits" to attract customers to WinCommerce's retail system.
WinMart brings consumers a rich and quality source of food.
With the WiN Membership program, WinMart/WinMart/WiN loyal customers are eligible for a 20% savings when purchasing these products.
In addition, inheriting Masan's strengths in R&D and brand building, WinCommerce has developed private labels with prices 10% to 20% lower than products in the same segment on the market, ensuring a competitive price strategy.
Products currently sold at WinMart/WinMart/WiN systems nationwide include Ngoc Nuong Rice, O'lala eggs, WinMart Good (dried food) and WinMart Home (personal care/household products).
Supra helps WinCommerce save 11% on costs
With a system of more than 3,600 supermarkets and stores, serving 32 million shoppers each month, thousands of items needing to be transported promptly to 62/63 provinces and cities across Vietnam, logistics is an extremely important step for WinCommerce.

In early 2022, Masan established Supra, officially entering the domestic logistics service with the initial goal of serving the group's ecosystem, helping consumers and partners save as much cost as possible.
The Supra Distribution Center (DC) system consists of 10 warehouse clusters (including 6 dry warehouse clusters and 4 cold warehouse clusters). The output of goods delivered through the Supra DC system accounts for approximately 60% of WinCommerce's total output of goods.
To cope with such a large volume of goods, Supra has applied technology to warehouse and transportation operations management. Specifically, Supra uses online and offline warehouse management technology to manage warehouse operations, applied to 100% of goods flow through DC for the entire chain, from tracking, controlling goods exported, imported, inventory, to transportation to support the ordering and sales activities of suppliers.
At the same time, the company applies transportation planning and optimization technology to transportation management, including: record and document management; fleet management; automation of operating systems, time and route arrangement and order tracking features. According to Masan's management, Supra has supported the WinCommerce retail system to reduce costs by 11%.
At the 2024 annual general meeting of shareholders, Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong - General Director of WinCommerce said that this retail chain has completed the phase of determining optimal retail models. In the coming time, WinCommerce will focus on the goal of profitable growth, opening an average of 1 new point of sale per day and is expected to reach 4,000 points of sale by the end of this year.
One year after its launch, WinCommerce’s WiN Membership program has now reached 10 million members. The program’s customer acquisition cost remains zero, and member cart values are double that of non-members.
On average, members shop four times a month, underscoring the program’s success in driving customer engagement and loyalty. It’s safe to say that WinCommerce has all the pieces in place to succeed in the Vietnamese market.
