The World Health Organization (WHO) issued a statement recommending that people in China get vaccinated, maintain distance from sick people, wash their hands frequently, and wear masks to reduce the risk of respiratory illnesses.
For people with respiratory illnesses, the agency recommends monitoring their health at home and limiting going out to avoid infection.
According to the WHO, since mid-October, northern China has seen an increase in cases of "flu-like" illness compared to the same period three years ago.
Previously, China's National Health Commission (NHC) stated that respiratory illnesses are on the rise in the country due to the lifting of COVID-19 pandemic restrictions and the spread of circulating pathogens, including influenza and common childhood infections.
