Walmart wants to connect and attract Vietnamese small and medium enterprises to participate in the e-commerce network.

Walmart leaders expressed their desire to support Vietnamese manufacturers and suppliers in creating domestic raw material areas with suitable quality and prices.

On the morning of September 12, at the Government headquarters, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha received Senior Vice President of Walmart Group (USA) Avaneesh Gupta.

At the reception, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha highly appreciated the visit of Walmart Group's leaders at a special time when Vietnam and the United States have just upgraded their relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership during the State visit of US President Joe Biden at the invitation of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

Appreciating Walmart's scale of operations in the world, the Deputy Prime Minister said that with its strengths in labor resources, infrastructure, and political and social stability, Vietnam has become one of the largest consumer goods manufacturing and exporting countries in the world.

Vietnamese manufacturers and suppliers have the potential and capacity to access the entire production process (raw materials, design, production, marketing, etc.); they wish to join leading retail corporations such as Walmart in forming a synchronous, comprehensive, holistic, sustainable "ecosystem" with a long-term commitment to sharing benefits from the consumer goods supply chain.

“We need to ensure clear and long-term cooperation among parties in the ecosystem; clearly define the responsibilities and tasks of the Government, ministries, branches, localities, enterprises…”, the Deputy Prime Minister said, affirming that by participating in 17 free trade agreements, Vietnam fully complies with its commitments on labor, environment, etc.

Discussing further about the strong development of e-commerce in Vietnam, the Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that the Government is continuing to direct ministries and branches to develop regulations and standards to ensure the safety and interests of consumers when participating in transactions in this market.

Walmart Group has many investment and business activities in Vietnam, especially in forming export supply chains. Mr. Avaneesh Gupta affirmed that the support policies of the Vietnamese Government have created favorable conditions for Walmart to form and operate smoothly production and supply chains for export goods to the world market such as textiles, consumer goods, and food.

Walmart leaders expressed their desire to continue supporting Vietnamese manufacturers and suppliers in creating domestic raw material areas with suitable quality and prices, promoting digitalization of the production process to improve productivity, ensure working conditions for workers, and enhance traceability of goods.

In addition, Walmart wants to connect and attract Vietnamese small and medium-sized enterprises to participate in the group's e-commerce network with about 120 million users.
