The 2023 Asian Powerlifting Championships will take place from December 10 to 18 in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. This is a continental powerlifting tournament organized by the APF (Asian Powerlifting Federation). This year's tournament will feature 453 athletes from 27 countries and territories. Athletes will compete in 18 weight categories for men and women.
Dang The Hung competes at the Asian tournament
In the men's 105 kg Junior category, athlete Dang The Hung competed with extremely strong opponents from Iran and India. However, with good performance, Dang The Hung excellently achieved a bronze medal in the squat with a score of 295 kg, a gold medal in the bench press with a score of 182.5 kg, and a silver medal in the deadlift with a score of 307.5 kg. With this result, Dang The Hung surpassed his Iranian opponent and won a total lift of 762.5 kg to win the precious gold medal for the Vietnamese team.
Dang The Hung excellently defeated a very strong Iranian opponent to win the highest position.
At this tournament, the Vietnamese powerlifting team participated with 3 athletes including Dang The Hung (men's U.105 Junior weight class), Bui Lan Anh (women's U.47 Open weight class) and Linda Le (women's U.52 Open weight class). Tomorrow, December 15, the athletes will continue to compete in the women's weight classes with the competition of two athletes Bui Lan Anh and Linda Le.
In terms of technical expertise, powerlifters will compete in three events: squat, bench press, and deadlift. Each event is performed in three attempts. The athlete's performance will be calculated as the total heaviest weight that the athlete successfully lifts in the events. In Vietnam, there has been a powerlifting championship held.
