We started our journey from Can Tho, the city known as Tay Do, and the capital of the West.
From Can Tho, if going northwest, along the Hau River, the left bank includes the lands of Vinh Long, Sa Dec, Cao Lanh, Hong Ngu and Tan Chau.
The right bank includes Can Tho, Long Xuyen, Chau Doc and An Phu (An Giang). It can be said that the vast delta that the Hau River flows through is the most famous rice-growing region in Vietnam, and can also be said to be the largest in Southeast Asia.
The economic benefits of agriculture and waterway trade are the characteristics that create a very important part of the Nine Dragons land.
The richness of the delta has created a unique culture that is in harmony with natural conditions. Walking along the banks of the Hau River, we discovered that most of the busiest floating markets in the South are concentrated on these branches of the river.
These are Nga Nam Floating Market (Soc Trang), Nga Bay Floating Market (Phung Hiep); Cai Rang Floating Market (Can Tho) and Long Xuyen Floating Market (An Giang). Most of these floating markets are still in operation.
Along the Hau River, in addition to the vast rice fields of Dong Thap Muoi and the Long Xuyen Quadrangle, we encountered fish farming villages, some of which stretched for kilometers. In addition to the aquatic resources obtained from the raft villages, the floating life on rafts is also recognized as a unique feature of the local people, leisurely and liberal.
