According to Mr. Tran Dinh Long, high-quality steel for high-speed railway construction is something the group will research and study.

"Hopefully, in the future, when the Party and Government are determined to build the North-South high-speed railway, Hoa Phat will participate in the bidding to supply steel for the project," Mr. Tran Dinh Long shared.

Regarding the future development orientation of Hoa Phat, Mr. Tran Dinh Long affirmed that he always looks to the future of 20, 30, 40 years. In particular, Hoa Phat will not expand the production of conventional steel products because these are "relatively easy to make" products, but will only focus on researching high-quality and difficult steel.

"Hoa Phat will continue to research any types of steel that Vietnam has not yet produced," Mr. Long emphasized.

In response to the question from Hoa Phat shareholder, "The Dung Quat 2 project produces high-quality steel, but the domestic market share is small, so what is the strategy for developing the market to reach out to exports?", Mr. Tran Dinh Long replied: You are not wrong when you talk about reality, but there is a very large trend, a global law, which is a huge shift of manufacturers from mainland China and high-tech economies such as Taiwan, Korea, Japan, and shifting production facilities to Southeast Asia.

“We cannot think that the Vietnamese market is too small to produce high-quality steel such as rail steel… We have to fight, if we can produce it, we will have to sell it all,” Mr. Long asserted.

Regarding Hoa Phat's intention to sue for anti-dumping of hot-rolled steel products imported from abroad, Mr. Tran Dinh Long shared: Before being a shareholder of Hoa Phat, we are all Vietnamese citizens. Everyone should have a viewpoint supporting domestic production. This is a consistent thing not only in Vietnam but also in the world, every country supports domestic production.

“No country in the world accepts imported steel that is larger than domestic production,” Mr. Long affirmed.

Chinese steel is flooding into Vietnam, threatening domestic production . Imported steel, mainly from China, is continuously flooding into Vietnam. This has put great pressure on domestic steel production enterprises.
