During the debut album launch of young singer Vu Thuy Linh's debut album 'Tơ đồng Thánh Thọt' on the afternoon of December 9 in Hanoi, People's Artist Thanh Ngoan and People's Artist Thuy Huong both said they admired their beautiful and talented student Vu Thuy Linh.

The album "Tỏ đồng Thánh Thột" includes 4 famous Vietnamese folk music works: Lung lieng (Bac Ninh folk songs), Cong cha ngai me sinh sanh (Xam singing), Luyen nam cung (Cheo singing), Chau Nam suo Lan (Cầu văn), and a pop song Giai dieu Viet Nam minh (composed by Tuan Cry).

Vu Thuy Linh chose the original singing style, but musician Luu Quang Minh arranged it for a symphony orchestra combining contemporary music.

For example, in the song "Cong cha ngai me sinh sanh" (The merit of father and mother) that was just released on Vu Thuy Linh's YouTube channel at 8:00 p.m. on December 9, the audience also saw leader Tran Thang of the band Ngu Cung perform an electric guitar solo in some places.

Vu Thuy Linh's own path

Artist Thanh Ngoan said she admired her young student, because a young girl with a beautiful voice like Vu Thuy Linh would make the wisest choice right after graduating to sing shows to earn money, instead of continuing to come to her to learn to sing Cheo, Xam, and Chau Van in the traditional style like Thuy Linh.

Thuy Linh took extra lessons from traditional music artists not only to find her own path in singing, but also to better fulfill her role as a teacher.

In the album "Tỏ đồng Thánh Thọt", Vu Thuy Linh did not choose the sweet singing style like when singing revolutionary homeland music before, or like her seniors singing folk songs.

She also does not sing with the technique of a professional chamber music singer.

People's Artist Thuy Huong - the Quan Ho singing teacher for Vu Thuy Linh - also said she admired Thuy Linh's determination.

She diligently traveled from Hanoi to Bac Ninh three times a week to learn Quan Ho singing to make the album "Tỏ đồng Thánh Thột" from a sudden idea.

Thuy Huong said she really likes Vu Thuy Linh's clear, "extremely crisp" voice.

"To sing Quan Ho, you must have a clear, resonant, deep, and bouncy voice. Vu Thuy Linh has a very clear, resonant voice without even learning it," said artist Thuy Huong.

Being a singer but still studying economics

Musician Luu Quang Minh admires Vu Thuy Linh for being extremely hard-working and determined. "This project took only 3 months from idea to completion, but Linh went to the homes of veteran artists to learn to sing...

Linh first encountered and learned all the songs from the most basic level, but within just 3 months she had mastered the singing style and ancient rhythms of the folk songs to complete the album," said musician Luu Quang Minh.

Thuy Linh said she wants to master the ancient singing style and the clear voice of folk melodies and turn them into her own. She wants to become a contemporary folk singer.

Appreciating the bold musical path that Vu Thuy Linh is pursuing, musician Huy Tuan invited the young singer to attend the Ho Do program this December in Ho Chi Minh City.
