The project includes 4 famous folk songs: “Lung Lieng” (Quan Ho Bac Ninh - Representative Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity), “Cong cha ngai me sinh sanh” (hat xam - National Intangible Cultural Heritage), “Luyen nam cung” (cheo - National Intangible Cultural Heritage), “Cầu Năm Suoi Lan” (cầu văn - National Intangible Cultural Heritage). In addition, there is also a pop song “Giai Melody of Our Vietnam”.
Notably, in this project, Vu Thuy Linh performed ancient folk songs on a symphony background with musician Luu Quang Minh as music director. To perform the original folk songs, she spent time learning from People's Artist Thanh Ngoan (xam, cheo) and People's Artist Thuy Huong (Bac Ninh quan ho).
Thanks to the youthfulness in the voice and the classical and modern arrangement of musician Luu Quang Minh, traditional folk songs have become new and more accessible. Vu Thuy Linh retains the characteristic vibrato of each type of folk song, blending it into symphonic music to create uniqueness.
At the introduction of this art project, People's Artist Thanh Ngoan commented that Vu Thuy Linh's voice is suitable for traditional music. The Xam and Cheo songs have good technique like a real "singer". People's Artist Thuy Huong commented that the difficult techniques of Quan Ho singing such as "nây hạp" are all performed by Thuy Linh in a methodical and standard manner.
Musician Luu Quang Minh has shown great favor to Vu Thuy Linh when participating in the project with her. He shared, “From the time of ideation to completion, this project took only 3 months, but Linh went to the homes of veteran artists to learn singing such as People's Artist Thanh Ngoan (teaching Cheo singing), or traveled from Hanoi to Bac Ninh 3 times a week to learn Quan Ho singing taught by People's Artist Thuy Huong... Linh had access to all the songs for the first time and learned from the most basic things, but within just 3 months, she had mastered the singing style and ancient manners in folk songs to complete the album - that is also another thing that I admire about this young singer.”
According to musician Luu Quang Minh, the project “Tỏ đồng Thánh Thọt” is a special musical product, demonstrating creativity in renewing traditional music, especially in preserving ancient traditions on a symphonic background. The production team hopes that the project will contribute to promoting Vietnam’s intangible cultural heritage, especially to young people and international audiences.
Vu Thuy Linh (born in 1999), graduated from the Faculty of Music Pedagogy at the Military University of Culture and Arts, is currently studying for a master's degree in music teaching theory and methodology at the Central University of Art Education. In addition, she is also studying for a second degree in Business Administration at the National Economics University.
