Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Dung - Chief Inspector of the Department of Education and Training of Thanh Hoa province said that regarding the case of a candidate of Le Hong Phong High School (Bim Son town) who had the wrong exam score for grade 10, the Department had a meeting with the family to find a solution to ensure the rights of the student.
According to Mr. Dung, during the working session with the Department's delegation yesterday afternoon (October 10), the family of student CTH expressed their wish for H. to continue studying at Le Hong Phong High School.
“We have explained to the family and directed the school to help find a private school or continuingeducation center for the student to attend, but the family did not agree. Because student H. did not pass the entrance exam to Le Hong Phong High School, we cannot agree to let him continue studying at the school. Doing so is against the regulations, wrong is even more wrong,” Mr. Dung informed.
According to Mr. Dung, after the inspection results of the CTH student whose score was mistakenly entered to move up to grade 10 from failing to becoming valedictorian, Le Hong Phong High School announced the results to the student and his family. Student H. quit school after receiving the notice from the school.
Inspectors from the Department of Education and Training of Thanh Hoa province determined that the incident did not happen because of the teacher marking the test but because of the scoring and grading team of the Ngoc Lac High School examination board. Therefore, the responsibility lies with the chairman of the examination board.
Ngoc Lac High School also disciplined teacher Ngo Thi Tuyet, who entered the wrong exam score, causing the student to go from failing to becoming valedictorian; and reviewed and learned from the experience of the staff and teachers of Ngoc Lac High School, including Mr. Vu Ngoc Liem - Principal of Ngoc Lac High School; Ms. Ngo Thi Thanh, Vu Thi Thuy, Tran Thi Tu - all teachers of Ngoc Lac High School in the resuscitation team.
In the 10th grade entrance exam in June in Thanh Hoa, CTH students registered their wishes to attend Le Hong Phong High School, Bim Son town. The exam results announced by the Department: The male student scored 39.4/50 points, the highest among 442 candidates applying to the school. However, the Department later received a complaint, stating that the above result was "unusual", because the male student had average academic performance in middle school.
The Department Inspectorate reviewed and discovered that the student's actual admission score was 24.4, 15 points lower than the original. Because the standard score of Le Hong Phong High School was 28.4 points, male student H. failed to pass the exam and was forced to drop out of school in early October.
In Bim Son town, there are 2 high schools: Le Hong Phong High School and Bim Son High School. In addition, there is also a Center for Continuing Education and Vocational Training.
Bim Son High School is a high quality school, ranked in the top 100 nationwide. Student H.'s score does not qualify for admission to either of these schools. She can study at the Continuing Vocational Education Center.
