On March 16, Khanh Hoa Department of Health said that during the day, medical facilities in Nha Trang City received 13 more cases of food poisoning suspected to be caused by eating chicken rice.
Specifically, the total number of cases recorded as of 3:00 p.m. on March 16 has reached 358. Of these, the total number of cases currently being treated is 170; 110 cases are prescribed for outpatient monitoring; the rest have been discharged from the hospital on the same day.
In particular, the case of an 18-week pregnant woman at Khanh Hoa General Hospital who became seriously ill on the night of March 15 is now awake, responsive, with pink skin and mucous membranes, stable vital signs, and reduced symptoms compared to before. The patient was treated with antibiotics and intravenous fluids; the doctors examined her, retested her, closely monitored her clinical condition, treated her, and provided intensive care.
Khanh Hoa Department of Health also said that the remaining patients are gradually stabilizing; some patients still have mild nausea and reduced fever, are being treated at medical facilities and are within the professional control of the units.
Previously, at 8:30 p.m. on March 12, Nha Trang Medical Center received reports of a number of cases hospitalized with suspected food poisoning symptoms due to eating chicken rice. According to a quick report from Nha Trang Medical Center, the cases were hospitalized with suspected food poisoning after eating at Tram Anh Chicken Rice Restaurant (Ba Trieu Street, Nha Trang City).
On the evening of March 15, this number increased to 345 people.
Initially, the Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Health proposed to treat patients with infections and gastrointestinal poisoning caused by the Salmonella group. According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Salmonella bacteria are found in many foods, including chicken, turkey, beef, pork, eggs, fruits, sprouts, other vegetables and even processed foods, such as nut butter, frozen baked goods... At the end of 2022, Salmonella was also the cause of poisoning for nearly 400 students at iSchool Nha Trang.
