Responding to Dan Tri reporters this afternoon (August 21), Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Sports Training and Competition Center, Mr. Ly Dai Nghia said: "Up to now, we have not received any complaints from parents. But through information in the press, we have proactively intervened and requested the Organizing Committee (OC) to report."
"We are doing 3 things: First, requesting the Tan Binh District Sports Department and the head of the Tan Binh District karate team at the above tournament to explain the incident, the deadline for this explanation is Monday (August 26).

Second, we request the referee team and the referee-in-chief to explain the match results. Third, we will invite an independent referee team to re-evaluate the results of the relevant match, comparing it with the referee's performance in the said match.
Our point of view is to do the right procedure, the right steps based on the most objective and comprehensive assessment, without covering up. If the incident is as reflected by the parents, then it is no longer a private matter of karate or this tournament, but a big matter of the sports industry of Ho Chi Minh City," Mr. Ly Dai Nghia added.
Also according to the Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Sports Training and Competition Center, Mr. Ly Dai Nghia, the invitation to an independent referee team to re-evaluate the match results is based on the videotape of the above match.
Mr. Ly Dai Nghia affirmed: "By the end of Monday, August 26, after collecting all reports and explanations from all parties, by Tuesday, August 27, we will report to the leaders of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City. After that, we will widely announce the results of the work."
"I thank the media for reporting and reflecting on the incident. We know that public opinion is very interested. We will work seriously. Of course, the working process must be in the right order so as not to draw hasty and inaccurate conclusions," Mr. Ly Dai Nghia affirmed.
Previously, after the 2024 Ho Chi Minh City Talented Karate Tournament for Youth on August 18, a parent named NMD accused of "giving up medals" at the tournament, related to the gold medal match of this parent's daughter, TM. This match took place in the 40-45kg category, age group 10-11.
According to Mr. NMD's reflection, the leader of Tan Binh karate team spoke up to suggest that TM and Mr. NMD "give" the gold medal to Binh Thanh, because "Binh Thanh has few medals".
At the same time, according to Mr. NMD's reflection, during the competition, the referees were unfair in the gold medal match between TM and the athlete from Binh Thanh.
Mr. NMD spoke up: "The referees showed signs of mistreating my daughter. Angry, my daughter and I then went home without receiving the medals (a gold medal in the team performance and a silver medal in the individual competition)."
"On August 19, I called the hotline of the Ho Chi Minh City Karate Federation to report the incident, but was told that the complaint deadline had passed," Mr. NMD added.
