TPO – “The school yard is filled with more than 1,725 students, who are participating in activities so their body temperatures are high. Many students take off their jackets and hold them in their hands because they cannot stand the heat,” explained Bui Thi Xuan Primary School (Lien Chieu District, Da Nang City).
On the evening of December 16, the Departmentof Education and Training of Lien Chieu District said that Bui Thi Xuan Primary School had a specific report from parents complaining that students had to take off their warm clothes and only wear their uniforms while standing in cold weather.
The school explained that on the same morning, the school organized a seminar on “I love my homeland’s sea and islands” in the school yard for all students of the school. Because the seminar program included a school-wide performance of the song “I sing about the distant islands”, students needed to wear uniforms to perform in unison, creating uniformity and solemnity.

At 7:30 a.m., when the performance took place, the weather in Da Nang was cold, but the school yard was filled with more than 1,725 students, who were participating in activities so their body temperatures rose. Many students took off their jackets and held them in their hands because they could not stand the heat.
Realizing that the atmosphere was not too cold, the activities had been carefully planned by the school, and were also an opportunity to help students gain more experience and better grasp knowledge about the sacred sovereignty of the Fatherland's sea and islands, the school's Board of Directors asked teachers to carefully check each student.
When the teachers saw that the students were ready to perform, they asked them to take off their outerwear to perform. The performance only lasted about 5-7 minutes.
Realizing the need to speed up the time to ensure the health of the students and not affect the program, the Organizing Committee shortened the performance. After that, the students were asked to put their coats back on and continue with other activities.
“However, some parents have reported on social media that students had to sit in the cold to serve school activities. The school would like to learn from this oversight and will have a plan to ensure the health and safety of students in future activities,” the school said.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Lich, Head of the Department of Education and Training of Lien Chieu District, shared that parents' comments are necessary to ensure safety in teaching and learning activities. The Department also requested the school's Board of Directors to meet, re-evaluate and draw profound lessons.
As Tien Phong reported, many parents in Da Nang were upset when students at Bui Thi Xuan Primary School had to take off their warm coats and sit in their uniforms in the middle of the schoolyard in cold weather. Meanwhile, teachers still wore warm coats and scarves.
