The People's Committee of Van Hung Commune, Van Ninh District, informed that a waterspout appeared and swept across the local sea area at around 3:30 p.m. on May 22. Yesterday afternoon, in Van Hung Commune, there was a strong wind and dark clouds, then a waterspout appeared about 500 meters from the shore, a thousand-meter-high waterspout appeared. In the area near the coast, the tide was receding.
The impact of the passing waterspout blew away many fishing boats and canoes, causing damage. Some basket boats were thrown far away. According to local people, the natural phenomenon lasted 3-5 minutes and then dissipated at sea. Fortunately, no one was injured.
A waterspout is a phenomenon of strong winds in a very small range, sucked from the ground up into a cumulonimbus cloud (a thick cloud of water), forming a moving funnel, looking like a faucet. Most waterspouts are formed from thunderstorm clouds, especially electrically charged thunderstorm clouds. A thunderstorm cloud can last for several hours, swirling in an area with a diameter of 10-16km, moving hundreds of kilometers, creating countless giant faucets.
A tornado can carry or destroy things along its path. From a distance, a tornado can appear black or white, depending on what it carries.
