Vo Quang Phu Duc: The champion of Road to Olympia has a confident smile

On the morning of October 13, the Ngo Mon Square in Hue exploded when the two hosts of the show Road to Olympia announced the answers to the obstacle course. Vo Quang Phu Duc was the highlight, as even before any data questions were opened, he confidently answered the final result of this competition.

Champion of the show Road to Olympia since childhood

Phu Duc's answer was "Net Zero" which made the entire Thua Thien Hue bridge stop. Everyone was anxiously waiting to see the final answer of the program, plus there was anxiety because if the answer was wrong, Phu Duc would have to stop this round.

From worry, excitement to bursting out when Phu Duc won 60 points thanks to that answer.

Talking about his classmate, Dau Nguyen Thai Binh (grade 12 math 1, Quoc Hoc Hue High School for the Gifted) said he was very proud of Phu Duc.

Binh said that in class Duc is a very funny, easy-going, confident and good student. The characteristic that impressed Binh about his classmate was his constant smile.

"In class, Duc is very funny and talkative. When Duc pressed to answer the keyword question in the obstacle course, I thought Duc would answer correctly and he did," Binh said.

Proudly talking about her son, Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Chau, Phu Duc's mother, said that since he was a child, Duc loved reading books and discovering new things in books. Since first grade, Duc has been attentive and especially enjoyed watching the show "Road to Olympia". Phu Duc set himself the goal of becoming a contestant on the show from then on.

"When I passed the entrance exam to Quoc Hoc Hue High School for the Gifted, I showed my determination to become a contestant on the show Road to Olympia. The teachers helped me nurture and review to achieve today's success," said Ms. Chau.

Selection from the Red Laurel program

Bursting with joy when for the third time a student brought home the laurel wreath for his hometown and school, Mr. Nguyen Phu Tho - principal of Quoc Hoc Hue High School for the Gifted - said that Phu Duc is the result of a long and methodical candidate selection process.

This is the 6th year the Red Laurel program has been held at the school to select candidates to participate in the Road to Olympia.

According to Mr. Tho, the Red Laurel program is organized by the school board and the school union with a methodical method, question package and program framework similar to the Road to Olympia. This program has a selection round, semi-finals and finals like the program of Vietnam Television.

To have a high-quality, highly classified question bank, the program's organizers consulted the question packages of the Road to Olympia program with the advice of contestants who participated in the final round of this program at school such as Nguyen Minh Triet, Ho Dac Thanh Chuong, etc.

"The program's organizing committee includes students currently studying at school. This is a useful and prestigious extracurricular activity, where all students of the school want to participate," said Mr. Tho.

Mr. Nguyen Tan, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Thua Thien Hue province, said that the third laurel wreath that Vo Quang Phu Duc won for Hue was the result of the process of properly investing both mind and strength in the Red Laurel program of Quoc Hoc Hue High School for the Gifted.

"Vo Quang Phu Duc is the pride of Quoc Hoc Hue High School for the Gifted in particular and the education sector of Thua Thien Hue in general. After he returns, we will propose a worthy reward for his efforts as well as the collective board of directors and teachers of Quoc Hoc Hue High School for the Gifted," said Mr. Tan.

"Building the homeland like my parents are doing"

At the final of the show Road to Olympia, Phu Duc said that he was lucky to be born into a family with a tradition of learning. Duc's mother is an agricultural engineer and his father is a mechanical engineer.

"My wish is to conquer the heights of knowledge so that in the future I will have the opportunity and conditions to build my homeland like my parents are doing," Phu Duc said.
