Tourists explore Dong Thap Muoi Ecological Reserve (Tan Phuoc district, Tien Giang province) on sampans.

Immerse yourself in the wild

About 30km northwest of My Tho, Dong Thap Muoi Ecological Reserve really impressed us with its wild beauty.

Before getting on the sampan, visitors are equipped with life jackets and conical hats and then begin their journey of discovery. “Underneath the layer of seaweed and moss are schools of fish swimming happily.

We are about to explore the cajuput forest with flocks of birds preparing to return to their nests,” Ms. Thu, the person rowing the boat for us, introduced.

People are amazed by the natural beauty that is “changing its clothes” when the weather enters autumn. Right at the edge of the forest, the cajuput trees are blooming white flowers; the yellow sesbania bushes are swaying, the ferns are bending and showing off their shape.

Amidst the natural scenery, flocks of birds fly around, calling each other back to their nests, making everyone exclaim with delight.

Many rare wild birds at Dong Thap Muoi Ecological Reserve, Tan Phuoc district, Tien Giang province.

The sampan gently rocked, taking us deep into the forest. On both sides were shady cajuput forests. Everyone spoke softly, not wanting to disturb the quiet and living space of many species of waterfowl and rare wild animals.

Hundreds, thousands of bird nests, storks of all kinds swayed on the treetops, just a few meters to a few dozen meters from our path. Occasionally, people saw schools of bold fish swimming, golden turtles coming ashore to nest…

“This is a conservation area, so no one is allowed to catch fish, shrimp or any other animals,” Thu explained. If you like, you can ask the boatman to stop to better feel the quiet space and record the simple moments of nature here.

After nearly an hour of traveling through the forest, we returned to the boat dock. It was sunny, but no one felt tired because the green of the cajuput forest made the weather seem milder. Everyone continued to move to the nearby 18m high observation tower, taking in the endless green.

After participating in the experiences, visitors stop at wooden huts to enjoy rustic dishes and specialties, such as grilled field mice, steamed apple snails, grilled snakehead fish, wild vegetables, pineapples... prepared by the locals.
