However, many people do not know that this platform has been successfully integrated and brought practical results in traffic monitoring and maintaining security and order in many localities across the country, such as Long An, Binh Phuoc, Dak Lak, Tay Ninh, Thai Binh, Cao Bang, Ha Giang, Ha Nam, ...

At the AI ​​City Challenge 2024, a group of young engineers from VNPT AI won the category of object detection from fisheye cameras. This is a problem that appeared for the first time with a very high complexity.

VNPT SmartVision solution demonstrates the spirit of “Make in Vietnam” with more than 40 AI models for image processing. In particular, the AI ​​model for vehicle recognition has surpassed more than 400 models registered to compete in the most difficult challenge - detecting objects from fisheye cameras with the challenge of fully identifying objects in mixed traffic such as buses, bicycles, cars, pedestrians, trucks, etc. from warped, distorted, low-resolution and unbalanced images. The category requires processing image data from ultra-wide-angle traffic camera lenses, including 180-degree and 360-degree panoramic views.

Recalling the stressful days of the competition, Mr. Duong Viet Hung, Director of VNPT SmartVision Platform, said that the competition lasted 2 months and was divided into 2 stages with nearly 730 participating teams from 47 countries, a 43% increase in the number of competing teams compared to 2023.

“Our team is leading and has never dropped a rank during the competition. However, the remaining teams are all from large businesses and organizations around the world, so the pressure is not small. But, instead of worrying, we choose to focus on moving forward,” said Viet Hung.

To date, VNPT SmartVision has been deployed in practice for more than 100 organizations and businesses, focusing on four main image processing areas including traffic monitoring, security monitoring, document digitization, and face recognition and search.

Regarding traffic and security monitoring, the solution has been deployed in many provinces and cities, helping authorities manage, promptly detect and handle violations of the law such as not wearing helmets, running red lights, driving in the wrong lane, driving in the wrong direction, stopping and parking illegally, detecting traffic accidents, etc.

Solutions to many difficult "problems"

Recently, VNPT has developed VNPT SmartVision to meet the needs of image processing in the market with 4 main groups of features: traffic monitoring, security monitoring, document digitization, face recognition and search.

For example, in Tan An City, Long An Province, the fines were implemented from October 2023. More than 100 VNPT SmartVision integrated cameras were installed to automatically record images of violations and transmit all data of violations to the Tan An City Police's camera monitoring center.

Tan An City Police said that thanks to the installation of a camera system to fine traffic safety violators, traffic participants have better complied with traffic safety laws, and recently the number of violations has decreased by about 80%.

Ms. Vo Thi Thu P. (in Ward 2, Tan An City) commented: “Since the presence of surveillance cameras, the awareness of people participating in traffic has been raised. Previously, anyone who wanted to stop or park on the street could pull over, turn around at will, or not pay attention to the speed limit, but since the information about fines through traffic cameras has been introduced, everyone has become more aware and reminded each other.”

Tan An City installed 121 cameras at 22 traffic locations on local roads, helping to reduce 80% of traffic safety violations.

Notably, in addition to the traffic monitoring function, VNPT SmartVision is also being applied to the screening and diagnosis of thyroid cancer at the Central Endocrinology Hospital. Currently, the project has entered the final stage with very positive signals about the accuracy rate of the system.

“Eliminating unnecessary diagnoses and reducing the number of complicated procedures will also help patients save costs, reduce the time and pressure they have to spend on the treatment process. Therefore, VNPT SmartVision becomes a powerful support tool for doctors at lower levels in early diagnosis of thyroid cancer. The results of the research and application process will be announced in the near future,” said a representative of the engineering team developing VNPT SmartVision.

Currently, with more than 40 AI models, the VNPT SmartVision artificial intelligence image recognition platform is also applied to many specific problems. In education, the AI ​​model processes facial images to develop an AI Assistant for managing student safety (vnFace School).

In digital payments, more than 100 banks, financial institutions, telecommunications and online commerce such as TPBank, HDBank, Vietcombank, SHB, MBBank, Kookmin Bank, Momo... have integrated AI image processing models to serve electronic identification and authentication for more than 40 million Vietnamese people.

“We have also expanded the application of image processing AI models to the field of digital signatures and electronic contracts to combat document and face forgery tricks, contributing to promoting safe and effective digital transactions,” added VNPT SmartVision Platform Director Duong Viet Hung.
