This morning, the market rose for most of the trading session, but the increase was not significant, at most only 5 points. By the end of the morning trading session, the VN-Index had risen slightly by 1.23 points, to 1,286.55 points.
The market maintained its positive momentum thanks to support from key stocks in the banking, real estate, and securities sectors.
In the afternoon session, buyers were cautious while sellers intensified their selling, causing many stocks to fall in price, and the VN-Index returned to its reference level and declined. At the close of the session, the VN-Index stood at 1,280.02 points, down 5.3 points (-0.41%); the VN30-Index fell 2.55 points (-0.19%), to 1,318.6 points.
Selling pressure prevailed, causing the VN-Index to fall by more than 5 points in today's trading session (August 26). (Illustrative image.)
Declining stocks outnumbered advancing stocks, with 259 falling and only 148 rising. Within the VN30 group, the number of declining stocks was more than three times greater than the number of rising stocks (21 and 6 respectively).
The group of blue-chip stocks showed strong divergence. Among the top 10 largest market capitalization stocks, VHM, VIC, and TCB increased in price; while VNM, HPG, CTG,FPT , GAS, BID, and VCB decreased. The strongest impact on the market's decline came from VNM, which deducted 0.75 points from the VN-Index; followed by MSN (nearly 0.6 points), FPT (0.56 points), etc.
Conversely, VHM, VIC, VPB, VRE, TCB, HCM, SSI, and VCI helped prevent the market from falling further.
Today, most sectors declined; household and personal goods, hardware, and semiconductors were among the sectors that fell by more than 2%. Conversely, the consumer services sector performed the best.
Liquidity improved, reaching 18,000 billion VND. Foreign investors were net sellers, buying over 1,366 billion VND and selling nearly 1,753 billion VND.
On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the total trading value reached over 1,200 billion VND. At the close of the session, the HNX-Index stood at 238.97 points, down 1.1 points (-0.46%); the HNX30-Index fell 5.15 points (-0.97%), to 526.37 points.
